Together, they are known worldwide as the Factory Mutual System, which had its origin in 1835. Fire and explosion research and large-scale testing have provided the scientific foundation, reliable data and engineering tools needed to protect property and prevent losses. FMRC has pioneered innovative approaches in combustion and fire research and delivered many significant technological breakthroughs in fire and explosion protection over the last three decades. This paper provides an overview of our accomplishments and current long- and short-range research activities.
