NEWS/IN BRIEF need to bond to metal or fabric. Fluoroprene XP combines the positive attributes of EPDM, VMQ and FKM, whilst offering universal media resistance in all critical areas of the food and beverage industry. The material is stable over a wide range of temperatures and demonstrates low capacity to absorb and transfer flavours from product media. The company says that its 70 EPDM 291, in particular, is impressive for its mechanical properties, which change comparatively little after contact with cleaning agents. The material demonstrates very good stability in acids, bases, polar solvents and clean-in-place and wash-in-place media. It is stable in water and steam to 180°C (356°F) and has excellent resistance to ageing, ozone and light. Like Fluoroprene XP, it complies with European and US food and beverage specifications. Flange sealant provides reliable alternative to O-rings
H
enkel Ag & Co KgaA’s products are playing a major role in ensuring efficient sealing in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The company claims that products such as its Loctite 518 provide a reliable, cost-efficient alternative to using conventional O-rings. According to Henkel, fluid technology manufacturers are facing the challenge of constantly increasing the reliability and efficiency of their products. The joining process of adhesion plays a significant role in areas such as joining shaftsleeve connections, thread-locking, thread sealing and structural adhesion or potting applications. The benefits of adhesion as a joining technique can be seen in sealing flanges. Liquid anaerobic surface adhesives, such as Loctite 518 provide a reliable, cost-efficient alternative to using conventional O-rings. Henkel says that the liquid sealant creates a complete adhesive bond between the flange surfaces and is superior to O-ring sealing in terms of chemical resistance, thus increasing operational reliability. There is no need for laborious flange prepara-

tion required for O-ring application, such as milling a groove. It is also not necessary to stock a range of O-ring sizes for different applications. Loctite 518 is suitable for sealing flanges of all sizes. Manufacturers can use it to increase the reliability of their products and reduce both the cost and complexity of their processes. Anton Paar launches SVM 3001 viscometer for testing lubricating oils
A
nton Paar GmbH, which develops, produces and distributes highly accurate laboratory instruments and process measuring systems, has launched the SVM 3001 Stabinger Viscometer. Described as a highly precise kinematic viscometer, with an integrated density-measuring cell, the system yields – in a single measuring cycle applied to a small sample volume – kinematic viscosity, density and dynamic viscosity data, and the viscosity index. Because the density cell is integrated, the density measurement does not need to be carried out separately. One combined measuring cell covers the entire measuring range for viscosity, density and temperature. The measuring principle, which is used, ensures that the measurement duration is independent of the sample's viscosity. A minimum sample amount of only 1.5 ml is sufficient for the multi-parameter results, including calculation of API degrees, says the firm. The SVM 3001 is designed for testing lubricating oils, base oils and additives, but also grease and wax in compliance with ASTM D7042, D2270, D4052, D7152, D6074 and EN ISO 12185. IN BRIEF A.W. Chesterton appoints new president and CEO US-based A.W. Chesterton, which specialises in fluid sealing technology and industrial equipment/infrastructure protection, has announced that Andrew Chesterton, formerly executive vice president and chairman of the board, has been named the company’s new president and CEO. He succeeds Brian O’Donnell, a longtime Chesterton executive, who will serve as a senior advisor on a variety of projects through to the end of the year. ‘I intend to focus on profitable sales growth by concentrating on exceptional customer service, technology leadership and innovation, and unparalleled product quality,’ commented Chesterton. ‘We will return to the intensive, global, solutions-oriented approach to support customers’ immediate sealing and equipment reliability challenges.’ Trelleborg Sealing UK facility obtains ISO/TS 29001:2011 Trelleborg Sealing Solution’s seal manufacturing facility in Tewkesbury, UK, is believed to be the first of its kind to obtain a prestigious international quality standard. The facility, which is one of the prime European production and development sites within the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions manufacturing network, has achieved PD ISO/TS 29001:2011. Meeting this standard shows that the facility achieves high standards in the design and manufacture of elastomer products, with robust processes in place as well as a commitment to reduce waste and prevent defects. ElringKlinger inaugurates plant in China ElringKlinger – a manufacturer of parts for cars, such as cylinder-head and speciality gaskets – has further expanded its business in China. It has officially opened a new plant in Suzhou, which includes a production facility and an administration building, canteen and staff rooms. Amongst the products made at the plant are lightweight components made from plastics. Having initially focused solely on the production of cylinder-head and speciality gaskets, ElringKlinger says that it now manufactures its entire product range in the Far East.
