PATENTS The invention relates to a rinsing device for a sealing system on a housing element. It is composed of a sealing surface and an associated closing element with a radially outer elastic seal. The rinsing device comprises at least one source for a rinsing medium, an annular channel disposed in the housing element, and an annular gap from which the rinsing medium can escape. When the closing element is in the shut position the annular gap is maintained in a closed state by the radially outer elastic seal. The annular channel is provided with at least one additional closable outlet for the rinsing medium. At least one side of the annular gap is ‘waved’ or ‘toothed’. The invention further relates to a method for using the rinsing device, according to which a rinsing medium is fed from the source to the annular channel and is drained off via the additional outlet when the closing element and the annular gap are closed and the additional outlet is open. Patent number: WO 02/27219 Inventor: H.-D. Cornelius, H. Pritzke Publication date: 4 April 2002

Fluid sealing Assignee: A.W. Chesterton Co, USA A mechanical seal which is designed to be mounted on a stationary housing that contains a rotating shaft is described. The seal employs an inboard mounted spacer element to provide axial and radial spacing between a holder and a gland. In addition to providing selected axial and radial spacing, the element also promotes or enhances fluid circulation in a process chamber formed between the gland and holder, by rotating about the shaft. Patent number: WO 02/27197 Inventor: H.V. Azibert Publication date: 4 April 2002

Flexible interlocking combustor transition seal Assignee: Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation, USA This patent provides details of a flexible seal assembly which has a seal body, a transition section attachment end, and a turbine assembly attachment end. The seal is structured in such a way that it can be attached to both the transition section and the power plant turbine assembly without the use of fasteners. and actinic radiation. The system contains at least one component (comprising at least one constituent which has at least one isocyanate reactive functional group and at least one functional group having at least one bond which can be activated by actinic radiation) in addition to at least one vinylaromatic allylalcohol copolymer. It also has at least one component that contains at least one polyisocyanate. The invention also relates to the use of this system as a sealant, coating material or adhesive. Patent number: WO 02/26853 Inventors: E. Nienhaus, B. Lettmann Publication date: 4 April 2002

Fluid control valve Assignee: Fisher Controls International Inc, USA An improved fluid control valve is provided. The valve includes a seal that is captured between an upstream flange adapter and a valve member, so that the seal prevents fluid from leaking around the valve member. The seal is carried by a holder ring, and stop-members are attached to the flange adapter for limiting upstream travel of the holder ring at specific points, thereby restricting possible tilting of the seal as the valve member rotates. Patent number: WO 02/29294 Inventors: C.R. Kuhlman, D.G. Blagg, W.D. Smith, L.J. Weber Publication date: 11 April 2002

Determining natural frequencies of brush seals Assignee: General Electric Co, USA A brush seal segment is mounted within a pressure vessel and against a surface of an element to provide a seal between regions located on each side of it at different pressures. By vibrating the vessel through a range of frequencies, the natural frequencies of the brush seal (under pressure loading) can be ascertained. Additionally, by adjusting the interference between the surface and the bristle tips, the natural frequencies of the brush seal under various interference loadings can likewise be ascertained. The pressure vessel uses mounts to attach it to a shaker table so that it can be vibrated through the range of frequencies. Patent number: WO 02/29292 Inventors: M.F. Aksit, M. Demiroglu, H.R. Sarshar, O.S. Dinc Publication date: 11 April 2002

Multi-component chemical system

Corrosion seal for threaded connections

Assignee: BASF Coatings AG, Germany This invention relates to a multi-component system that can be hardened by means of heat

Assignee: Grant Prideco LP, USA The threaded connection between the pin and the box ends of two pipes is sealed externally and

internally to protect the threads in the connection from exposure to corrosive fluids. Seals are provided at each axial end of the threads. The external seals may be formed by a metal-to-metal engagement between the pin and box, or they may be provided by an annular, elastomeric ring engaging the pin and box of the connection. A threaded compression ring may be used to compress the elastomeric seal between the pin and box. The seals protect dynamically loaded threaded connections from fatigueinduced failure in corrosive environments. Patent number: WO 02/29290 Inventors: R. Delange, E.M. Evans, R.C. Griffin, W.W. Starodub, G.K. Otten, D.S. Anderson Publication date: 11 April 2002

Shaft seal Assignee: Heidelberg Digital LLC, USA The subject of this patent is a seal for a rotary shaft. The shaft extends through the wall of a container, in which is placed agitated, abrasive particulate matter. The seal includes a first polymeric member around the shaft (and is in engagement with the wall of the container), with the shaft rotating inside the first member. The first member engages a second polymeric member that is positioned around the shaft. This rotates with the shaft, relative to the first member. A third compressible member is positioned around the shaft for rotation with the shaft and the second member. A retaining ring maintains the first, second and third members in compression between the retaining ring and the wall. Patent number: WO 02/29289 Inventors: C.S. Garcia, P.E. Thompson, K.M. Patterson, B.P. Pelligra Publication date: 11 April 2002

Expansion seals for concentric tubular structures Assignee: OBI Corporation, USA An apparatus and method for sealing a first tubular member in a fixed position with respect to a second concentric tubular member is described in this patent. The inner tubular member is formed with a shallow annular depression in the tube wall at the point where a sealant is placed. This causes the wall of the inner tubular member to intrude into the otherwise cylindrical passage within the tube. On the outer surface of the first tubular member the depression is filled with a partially compressible fluid. The annular depression and the partially compressible fluid are then covered by a malleable/ductile sleeve. Placement of the seal involves positioning the inner tubular member within the outer tubular one, and moving the inner tube longitudinally so as to position it at the desired point where
