PATENTS The invention relates to a rinsing device for a sealing system on a housing element. It is composed of a sealing surface and an associated closing element with a radially outer elastic seal. The rinsing device comprises at least one source for a rinsing medium, an annular channel disposed in the housing element, and an annular gap from which the rinsing medium can escape. When the closing element is in the shut position the annular gap is maintained in a closed state by the radially outer elastic seal. The annular channel is provided with at least one additional closable outlet for the rinsing medium. At least one side of the annular gap is ‘waved’ or ‘toothed’. The invention further relates to a method for using the rinsing device, according to which a rinsing medium is fed from the source to the annular channel and is drained off via the additional outlet when the closing element and the annular gap are closed and the additional outlet is open. Determining natural frequencies of brush seals Assignee: General Electric Co, USA A brush seal segment is mounted within a pressure vessel and against a surface of an element to provide a seal between regions located on each side of it at different pressures. By vibrating the vessel through a range of frequencies, the natural frequencies of the brush seal (under pressure loading) can be ascertained. Additionally, by adjusting the interference between the surface and the bristle tips, the natural frequencies of the brush seal under various interference loadings can likewise be ascertained. The seal includes a first polymeric member around the shaft (and is in engagement with the wall of the container), with the shaft rotating inside the first member. The first member engages a second polymeric member that is positioned around the shaft. This rotates with the shaft, relative to the first member. A third compressible member is positioned around the shaft for rotation with the shaft and the second member. Expansion seals for concentric tubular structures Assignee: OBI Corporation, USA An apparatus and method for sealing a first tubular member in a fixed position with respect to a second concentric tubular member is described in this patent. The inner tubular member is formed with a shallow annular depression in the tube wall at the point where a sealant is placed. This causes the wall of the inner tubular member to intrude into the otherwise cylindrical passage within the tube. On the outer surface of the first tubular member the depression is filled with a partially compressible fluid. The annular depression and the partially compressible fluid are then covered by a malleable/ductile sleeve.
