Ultrasonic transducers measuring 38.10 and 28.48 mm across have joined a range of American flawdetection transducers. The range now rises from 6.35 to 38.10 mm (Fig.5). The large-diameter Accuscan series covers the frequencies 0.5, 1.0 and 2.25 MHz. They cover a greater volume of test material and are also designed to give a narrow beam spread for the inspection of rotors, crankshafts, rolls and so forth. The transducers are fitted w i t h WC-5 heavyduty wearplates to resist chipping, crackh~g and abrasion, They are-designed for contact or immersion testing. Panarnetrics, 221 Crescent Street,

for small parts

An American ultrasonic testing specialist has developed a scanning system for the ultrasonic immersion testing of small parts. The equipment, MiniScanner, censists o r e glass w a g e d t a f l k with a motorized bridge carriage and manipulator (Fig.6). The instrumentation is held in a cabinet which rides

The bridge moves along the tank at 0 . 2 5 - 4 6 0 mm s"t selected by thumbwheel switches. The carriage moves from side to side at 0 . 2 5 460 mm s"1. The manipulator moves up and down at 0 . 2 5 - 6 mm s"1 at a tilt of -+ 45 ° in the x direction and -+ 30 °. i n the-V-di~dCt~: T h ~ poWer requirement is 115 Vac at 60 Hz to give 300W. The company also sells circulation pumps, filter, skimmers, thermostat, turntables and so forth.

Panametric has extended its line of • t~ltrasonic pulse:~ec~e~r~ ~ f f h ~the addition of a new 5055 PR designed to maximise broadband performance in the range 10 k H z - 5 MHz. The 5055 PR has a 350 V pulser with a flat response from 0 . 0 1 - 5 . 0 MHz and a selectable receiver bandwidth calibrated in five bandwidth range (Fig.7). The apparatus is designed to include flaw inspection and thickness measurement of highly attenuating materials as well as

An oil company is now supplying magnetic f l u x indicators in the form of artificial flaws in foil tabs (Fig. 8). The tabs come in two sets, 5 silver finish and 5 brass finish, to indicate whether the magnetic f l u x is high enough to inspect ferromagnetic test-pieces to two different British standards by magnetic particle inspection. A n inspector takes one of the-al~l~ropriateta-bs,~which ..... are made by Burwash Castrot Ltd, and attaches it to the test area by transparent adhesive tape and aligns it with its major axis in the direction of suspected defects. If defects are expected in t w o dire_ctions_then two tabs should be used. The magetizing field is applied to the test area. The inspector then waits 5 s and 'nspects the indicator with the field still on.
