NEWS linking begins as soon as the two components have been thoroughly mixed, irrespective of moisture levels. Terostat MS 500 is based on silane-modified polymers and exhibits a high initial bond strength directly after joining. This sag-resistant one-component adhesive is applied warm and cross-links by reacting with atmospheric moisture to form an elastic product. In addition to primer-less adhesion to glass, metal and plastics, the elastic adhesive also has excellent UV, temperature and weathering resistance. Compared with fastening processes that rely on adhesive tapes, this product is also easier to handle. Providing full sealing, these products ensure that solar modules have a long service life. By sealing all joints and edges, they effectively prevent the penetration of moisture and thus enhance the efficiency of the module. They also offer advantages in terms of design and construction as they are capable of compensating for tolerances in the laminate or the frame, which reduces the risk of modules becoming detached from frames. carded tyres to good use. By combining recycled tyres with bio-renewable content, they are delivering environment-friendly seals and gaskets for Ford vehicles. The gaskets and seals are derived from 25% post-consumer particulate from recycled tyres and 17% bio-renewable content from soy. In total, more than 2.2 million pounds of rubber from recycled tyres has been made into RPM seals and gaskets and more than 210 000 used tyres have been recycled. In addition, 150 000 pounds of soy has been used to create the materials. The seals also offer weight savings – with more than 1675 tons of weight removed from Ford vehicles on the road. ‘When it comes to finding a way to use more renewable and recyclable content in our vehicles, Ford and our suppliers are looking at every part of a vehicle,’ said Dr Cynthia Flanigan, Technical Leader, Research and Innovation, Ford. ‘As long as an application makes sense and upholds strict quality standards, we will look to get these sustainable materials inside our vehicles.’ The sustainable gaskets were first introduced to Ford in 2008 and are now used in 11 vehicles. Those that feature the sustainable seals and gaskets include the Ford Escape, Ford F-150, Ford F-250, Ford F-350, Ford Fiesta, Ford Flex, Ford Focus, Ford Mustang, Ford Taurus, Ford Transit Connect and Lincoln MKS.
