Posters
We hope you will enjoy this meeting and your stay in Edinburgh. The Organising Committee and Meeting Makers will do all we can to assist you.
Posters will be on display all day from Monday to Thursday in the Cromdale Hall at Level -2 (Basement). Authors of the posters are asked to be present to answer questions during the lunch break. Posters should be removed at 1800 hrs to prevent them being discarded by the EICC staff. Coffee and tea are provided here during the breaks. A simple lunch may be purchased here from the cash bar.
I n f o r m a t i o n on the Scientific Programme Extended discussion We are continuing the tradition built up at the previous meetings of an extended discussion. Each presentation will be followed by 10 minutes discussion. Microphones are in the aisles and discussants should use these as questions from the floor cannot be heard by the entire audience. Please keep you questions short and to the point. The EICC has also plenty space for informal discussion over a cup of coffee or tea or during the lunch break.
Hot Topics Session The Hot Topic session will be a highlight on Thusday 24 July. If your latest hot-off-thebench results excite you then you may wish to share these findings with the delegates. The Scientific Committee will consider proposals for the oral presentations. Proposals (no more than one A4 sheet) may be handed in at the registration desk up to 1200 hours on Tuesday 22 July. Those selected for presentation will be informed on Wednesday 23 July immediately after lunch. The presentation will be of 10 minute duration plus 5 minute discussion. The Hot Topics programme will be displayed on the monitors throughout the building. Presenters of the Hot Topics session will be invited to prepare a manuscript for the proceedings of the meeting to be submitted no later than 1 October 1997.
Slide Loading and Preview Facilities for the loading and the checking of the slides are provided in Ochil Room of the Galloway Suite on Level 1. The Room will be open from 0730 hrs. Speakers are asked to take their slides to Ochil Room at least 30 rain before the start of the session in which they speak. Assistance is at hand and a very limited service can be offered to remount into glass mounted slides. The slide carousels will be delivered to the room for you and are returned to this area at the end of the session.
Badges For security reasons badges must be worn throughout the event.
Exhibition We invite you to visit the Exhibition in the Cromdale Hall (basement). During coffee and tea breaks refreshments will be served here and lunches will be on sale.
Proceedings Authors of the invited lectures and oral presentations are invited to hand in their manuscripts at the registration desk. The Proceedings will be published by American Oil Chemists' Society Press.
Messages Messages can be left at the Registration desk and will be displayed on the Information Board in the Strathblane Hall. Important announcements will be displayed on the monitors.
General Information Transport Additional transport has been organised for delegates staying at the Pollock Halls of Residence. Each morning a bus waiting near the main entrance gate will leave for the EICC at 0800 hrs sharp (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and 0830 hrs sharp on Thursday. The bus will return to Pollock Halls each afternoon 15 mm after the end of the session (1745) or 1600 hrs on Thursday. Transport will be arranged for delegates staying in Pollock Halls on Monday and Wednesday to the Reception at the Royal Museum and to the Gala Dinner at the Sheraton. Departure 1900 hrs. Information for your return journey, whether by train or plane, is displayed on the Information Board in the Strathblane Hall.
Social Programme Sunday 20 July 1800 - 2000 hrs Welcome Reception for delegates and registered accompanying guests at the EICC. Wine and soft drinks will be served and delegates will have a chance to meet colleagues and friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Monday 21 July 1930- 2100hrs. Reception at the Royal Museum, Chambers Street. This reception offered by The Olive Oil Council, will be held in the Great Hall, a showcase for many beautiful and intriguing objects from all around the world. Wednesday 22 July 1930 - 2300 hrs. Gala Dinner at the Sheraton, Festival Square. Featuring traditional Scottish fayre and entertainment including Scottish country dancing and Ceilidh band. The cost of this dinner is £35 and some tickets may be purchased from the Registration Desk.
Sightseeing We hope you will take the opportunity to visit Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland. A brochure is enclosed which highlights some of the attractions in the city of Edinburgh. More information on attractions, an eating and drinking guide and on getting around Edinburgh can be found in The Essential Guide to Edinburgh (in your delegate pack). Please visit the Tourist Information Desk in the Strathblane Foyer of the EICC (groundfloor) or the Tourist Office, 3 Princes Street (Tel 557 2727). Their staff will be delighted to help you.
Accompanying Guests On registration you will receive a pack which has information on suggested tours if you wish to explore the city by yourself. Alternatively you may join our guides who will take you to the highlights of the town or to go shopping. We will meet each morning at 0900 hrs in the Strathblane Hall.
