The portrait of Dr. Frederick C. Cordes was presented to the University of California School of Medicine in recognition of his services and contributions to the university. The staff of the Department of Ophthalmology and his former residents commissioned the well-known San Francisco portrait artist, Mr. Arthur IV. Palmer, to paint this portrait in honor of Dr. Cordes' 20 years of service as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology on July 1,1954.
