Vacuum News cryogenic vessel market, taking over the manufacture and marketing of the well established Cryoproducts range, originally designed and engineered by BOC. In July 1985 AirReel Cryoproducts completed an impressive expansion of their Littlehampton cryogenic vessel production facilities. As a result of this investment, AirReel Cryoproducts will, over the next few months, be adding no less than 13 new vessels to their Cn/oproducts range, as well as superinsulated vacuum pipelines and a much extended range of accessories. AirReel Cryoproducts take great care to preserve the reputation the Cryoproducts range has for quality. reliability and safety. Rigorous standards of quality control are maintained throughout manufacture and vessels are produced, where appropriate, to international pressure vessel codes.
Freeze drying
botanical
and zoological
specimens
Small mammals, birds and botanical specimens such as mosses, ferns and fungi have all passed through an Edwards Supermodulyo freeze dryer during the last year. The Supermodulyo is being used by The Council of Museums in Wales at their Cardiff headquarters to prepare specimens for museums throughout Wales. Alan Morgan, Natural History Technician at the Council, says the Supermodulyo has been in almost continuous use since they took delivery of the unit in November 1984 and that results have been virtually 100% successful. More than 100 specimens have been freeze dried during this period in the Supermodulyo. They have ranged in size from small examples of mosses and pieces of bark with lichen, through to an adult female sparrow-hawk.
The Cryoproducts range extends from small, aluminium dewars through to 3000 I stainless steel vessels suitable for storing and using liquid nitrogen, oxygen, argon, helium and spanning a wide range of industrial and research laboraton/ processes. AirReel Cryoproducts also provide advice on all aspects of storing, transporting and process control of cryogenic liquids; offer a full test and repair service for vessels (any make) and undertake design and manufacture of special products to meet customers’ particular requirements. TEGAL announces
custom
equipment
operation
TEGAL Corporation, a member of Motorola’s New Enterprises Group, has added a Special Products Department within the 900 Operations Group to provide customized plasma etching equipment for the semiconductor industry. Special products will range from minor changes or repackaging to integration of a customer’s proprietary design into an etcher. Custom modules can also be retrofitted into existing installed systems. Elliott Philofsky, Vice President, Operations, commented: ‘This is the next logical step in our long term product plan. The modular design of our etchers allows us to customize machines with a relatively short lead time by changing only the necessary modules’. TEGAL etchers are primarily designed for processing silicon and gallium arsenide wafers, but other substrates and plasma processes will be considered. Non-disclosure agreements will be used to protect proprietary information. Inquiries can be made through any of TEGAL’s worldwide sales force. Ed Brooks, formerly 900 Series Product Marketing Manager, has been appointed 900 Special Products Manager. Brooks, who reports to Charlie Schiff, Director of 9Xx Operations, has also previously held management positions in engineering at TEGAL. In his new position, he will be available to consult with customers to evaluate their exact requirements or specifications. Then he will maintain responsibility for a project through to installation and acceptance of the finished product at the user’s site. Brooks commented: ‘As the industry matures, customers are asking for custom features or variations of our standard etchers. Responding to these needs is part of our philosophy of Complete Customer Satisfaction’. Contact: Chris Ridge TEGAL Ltd. Visitors to Welsh museums are enjoying the benefits of freeze drying technology to create spectacular natural history displays. The Cardiff based Council of Museums in Wales is using an Edwards High Vacuum Supermodulyo freeze dryer for small mammals, birds and botanical specimens. The Supermodulyo, which was supplied to the Council by Severn Science Ltd-western area distributors for Edwards, is a free-standing unit designed to fit beside a standard laboratory bench. The base unit comprises a large corrosion resistant condenser with an ice capacity of 12 kg, a powerful refrigeration system, an integral 12 m3 h-’ rotary vacuum pump and associated control instrumentation. Operation of the unit, as Alan Morgan confirms: ‘could not be easier’. The Supermodulyo has automatic hot gas defrosting, a horizontal condenser for easy removal of ice plug and an azide proof condensing and vacuum system.
