RU~ZAN) Shlrokov, A P Ugol Ukrai~, NI2, Dec 1977, P8-12 Presents a classification scheme based on design ard properties which includes bolts available in USSR, UK and USA. 792230 FRICTION ROCK STABILIS~S, AND WHY THEY WORK Scott, J J Proc iRth US Symposium on Rock Mechanics, Stateline, N e ~ a , 1-3 May 1978, VI, I~92494. Publ Reno: University of Nevada, 1978 It is estimated that 25 pe~ cent of the roof contrOl fixtures now used in U.S. uranium mimes are friction rock stabilizers. This paper discusses the device itself, the mechanism by which it functions and-compares this mechanism with mare common devices such as the mechanical roof bolt and the resin rebar system. Case histories are described briefly.

792231 TES~f OF INORGANIC REPLACEMENTS FOR RESINS Wang, F D; Zimk, G; Wolgammott, J USBM OFR 59-78, Sept 1976, 84P The polymeric-resin-borzled bolt has generally proved to be mare effective than the mechanically anchored roof bOlt, but the higher cost of the resin bolt has limited its application. LabQratc~- tests of four types were performed on various rapid-set amd accelerated cement products to find a material with properties suitable for replacing resins. A proprietary gypsum cement was ultimately used with good success. A field tesb of the cement grout in an operating coal mine is reported.

The design and development of a new multi-Posi-

tion bc~ehole extensometer is described. Details include small button magnets located on the borehole sides for reference purposes, whilst a probe is guided in a flexible grooved casing for locating the precise centre of a reference point amd a depth monitor fixes its vertical position. Results of laboratory feasibility studies and the borehole simulation survey are included. The instrumentation has a special application in boreholes where drilling of a long, straight borehole is not alw%ys possible.
