AIRBUS SAYS it has reviewed the Airbus 380 programme and is changing its delivery schedule as the steep ramp-up planned in 2006 proves not to be fully achievable. Details of the financial impact of this are not yet available. Airbus warns that 12 rather than 13 deliveries will be made in 2008, and the number for 2009 is 21 rather than 25. The new delivery plan, further rampup and deliveries for 2010 will be discussed with customers in the coming weeks. The reason for the delays is that time and resources needed for low rate individual production, called Wave 1, are higher than expected causing
GURIT IS divesting the remaining part of its winter sport business in Worb, Switzerland, to French group Socrep as the unit fails to reach sufficient levels of profitability despite downsizing last winter. As a result of the winter sports business failing to show the same growth as other sectors, Gurit is divesting both its customer portfolio as well as the majority of the machinery. Socrep will relocate machinery and production to France, making the phasing out of the Worb site seem inevitable, resulting in a potential loss of 37 jobs in Worb. Gurit says it has started the consultation process with the workers' representatives.

Airbus stresses, however, that the 2006 recovery programme is performing well overall with four aircraft being delivered as planned and 17 aircraft in various stages of production, mainly in the wiring installation and system testing phases. Most aircraft earmarked for delivery in 2008 have already flown. In April, competitor Boeing announced a revised delivery schedule for its 787 with delays of about half a year for deliveries in 2009. The empty buildings will be sold separately by Gurit. The Swiss company will receive a low single-digit million CHF amount as proceeds from the transaction, which is expected to be closed by the end of August 2008. It will also incur a similarly low singledigit million CHF amount of additional restructuring costs. At the same time as phasing out the production of extruded winter sport materials in Switzerland, Gurit says it is seeking strategic solutions for production of sintered running bases located in Vreden, Germany.
