PATENTS ble, adhesive strength and is easy to remove and replace, without it being influenced by the application environment. The bearing is equipped with a pair of elastic seal members (5) that seal each end in the axial direction of the bearing space (4) on inner and outer rings (1 & 2). Fitting recesses (7), which press-fit the bases (6) of the seal members (5), are disposed on both the inner and outer rings (1 & 2), and interferences (which are shaped with recesses and projections) are disposed on either the bases (6) of the seal members (5), or on the interior of the fitting recesses (7), or on both. The bases (6) of the seal members (5) are pressfit and fixed into each of the fitting recesses (7) using a silane adhesive. Patent number: WO/2011/013551 Inventors: M. Hori, K. Suzuki and N. Piston-ring coating Applicant: Federal-Mogul Burscheid GmbH, Germany This invention relates to a piston-ring coating on at least one running surface. It comprises – from the inside out – an adhesive layer; a metal-containing, preferably a tungsten-containing, diamond-like carbon (DLC) layer; and a metalfree DLC layer. It is characterised in that the ratio of the thickness of the metal-free DLC layer to the thickness of the metal-containing DLC layer ranges from 0.7–1.5 μm and/or to the overall thickness of the coating ranges from 0.4–0.6 μm. Note that it is assumed that the thickness measurements are given in micrometres, but this cannot be confirmed from the German text. Patent number: WO/2011/018252 Inventors: M. Kennedy and M. Zinnabold Publication date: 17 February 2011

person or animal. It is used, in particular, for eye treatment, or for systemic treatment via the eye. A fluid dispenser is detailed that includes a sealable reservoir for storing the fluid to be dispensed; a transfer body for carrying a predetermined volume of fluid from the reservoir to a dispensing point; and a sliding seal for maintaining the reservoir in a sealed state while a portion of the transfer is moved to the dispensing point. Applicant: Hyundai Hysco, Korea Disclosed is a gasket for a metal separator. It has a dual structure that improves the stiffness and sealing property of the foil metal separator. It is composed of a first gasket, which is formed at each edge region of a channel, and a manifold of a metal main body, comprising the channel and the manifold by using a material such as reinforced plastics, high hardness rubber and the like (and provides stiffness to the metal main body). A second gasket is formed on the first gasket by using a material such as rubber and the like, and provides sealing properties to the channel and the manifold. Patent number: WO/2011/013869 Inventors: Y.-T. Jeon, K-J. Kim and Y.-S. Jeong Publication date: 3 February 2011 Technical Editor’s comment: The application is not mentioned in the English abstract and the design is not one with which I am familiar.

Applicant: Thyssenkrupp Drauz Nothelfer GmbH, Germany This patent describes a method of joining the two mating ends of a vehicle door seal. The alignment of the two mating seal profiles, the way in which they are positioned and subsequent welding, or heating in the presence of adhesive, are also discussed. Mechanical seal Applicant: JGC Corp, Japan A dual mechanical seal arrangement for a mixing vessel has been developed. It has a buffer supply between the seals. There is also an external lip seal which can be used to exclude air from the complete mechanical seal assembly during sterilising operations. Patent number: WO/2011/018879 Inventors: T. Kojima and S. Yamagami Publication date: 17 February 2011

Seal member for preventing leakage of a micro-powder from a rotating body Applicant: Sanwa Techno Co Ltd, Japan The seal member described by this patent is for micro-powder, or toner used for a developing roller, or the like, such as an electro-photographic image-processor or copying machine. It comprises a base fabric, which consists of a ‘‘knitted’’ structure, and a loop-shaped pile yarn, or cut-shaped pile yarn, which is supported on the surface of the base fabric by the entanglement or support of ground yarn of the base fabric. A coating layer has penetrated from the back surface of the base fabric, to which a coating agent is applied, to the side of pile yarn. The thickness (or height) of the coating agent, which has penetrated from the back surface of the base fabric, is the same as, or less than, that of the base fabric. Details of the weaving process are illustrated. Patent number: WO/2011/018948 Inventors: S. Shoji and K. Fukui Publication date: 17 February 2011
