Conference Focus International fluid sealing conference programme published The registration brochure and programme for the 19th International Conference on Fluid Sealing is now available. The conference will be held in Poitiers, France on 25–26 September 2007, and will be followed by the EDF/University of Poitiers Workshop on 27 September. Two very full days of presentations are on offer from BHR Group, with the accompanying popular social events. The programme includes two full sessions on both fluid power reciprocating seals and rotary mechanical seals. There are also sessions on rotary lip seals, joints and valves, elastomer seals and turbo-machinery clearance

seals. The reciprocating seals sessions cover some of the latest topical work on surface texture, lubrication analysis and chrome replacement. A wide range of topics are covered by the mechanical seal sessions, followed by labyrinth and brush seals. Contact surfaces to be discussed at post-conference workshop The 6th EDF/LMS Poitiers Workshop, titled ‘Role and Effect of Contact Surfaces in Dynamic Sealing’, will follow on from the International Sealing Conference on the 27 September. The keynote presentation will be on Laser Surface Texturing in Dynamic Sealing by Pr. Izhak Etsion, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technion, Haifa, Israel, who has worked on this topic for many years. Ten other presentations will include: •



Mechanical seals; influence of surface topography, influence of deposit roughness, DLC coatings, 3D TEHD modeling and fugitive emissions in compressors. Leaf seals; experiments on the influence of shaft surface finishing, experiments on thermal behaviour.

New hybrid brush seals; development and modeling. O-rings; experiments on dynamic and fatigue behaviour.

Delegates to the workshop will also have the opportunity to visit the EDF Nuclear Power Plant at Civaux, near Poitiers, on the morning following the Workshop. Gasket team go on tour Lamons Gasket Company is organizing a series of one–day End User Technical Symposia during July and August. The presentations will cover gasket design, special gaskets, installation and maintenance with an emphasis on Kammprofile gaskets. They will be held at 14 venues in the US and 6

STLE hosts two seal sessions The 62nd Annual Meeting of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) was held in Philadelphia, USA on 6–10 May.
