Gastroparesis
Foreword Gastroparesis
Gary W. Falk, MD, MS Consulting Editor
Gastroparesis is undoubtedly one of the most frustrating disorders in gastroenterology for both patients and clinicians. The disease may be profoundly debilitating and, unfortunately, treatment options remain limited and have not progressed dramatically over the years. Furthermore, little has changed in the diagnostic approach to this disease, which continues to be based on radionuclide gastric-emptying studies. In this issue of Gastroenterology Clinics of North America, Drs Henry Parkman and Pankaj Jay Pasricha have assembled a group of leaders in the field of gastroparesis to provide an update on many of the relevant issues of this vexing disorder. In addition to the entire spectrum of diagnosis and treatment, exciting new information is presented on underlying mechanisms of disease as well as urgently needed new therapies. Taken together, this issue of Gastroenterology Clinics of North America provides the reader with the perspective of experts in the field to allow for optimal management of these very challenging patients.
