General geotechnical considerations and limit equilibrium analysis in the planning of dam foundations (in German)

Sand drains were used f~r radial drainage amd as relief wells to speed the consolidation and s t r e ~ e n i m g of the uPper levels of the clay, prier to final embankmerit constriction. Foundation perfc~mar2e was evaluated and strongish increases measured. The embamkments are perfc~mimg satisfactorily, but they experienced l~.rge initial settlements duriDg constr~.~ti on.
