SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME

Both oral and poster sessions will focus on recent advances in the uptake, establishment and expression of DNA by bacteria and fungi, the development ofgene delivery systems for plant and animal cells, recombination, integration and transposition, restriction, modification, repair and mutagenesis. To be considered, abstracts must be mailed by 15 May 1990. Reviews will be presented on the following topics: Biolistic transformation in bacteria, fungi, plants and animals (J. Sanford, Geneva, NY) Genetic transformation in natural environment (W. Wackernagel, Oldenburg, F.R.G.) Expression of foreign peptide epitopes at the E. coil cell surface (J. Tomassen, Utrecht, The Netherlands) Synthesis and secretion of pertussis toxin subunits in B. subtilis (M. Sarvas, Helsinki, Finland) Plasmid stability in B. subtilis (G. Bron, Groningen, The Netherlands) Protein secretion in Streptomyces (G. Tiraby, Toulouse, France) Progress in genetic manipulation and gene expression in Aspergillus (P. Pouwels, Rijswijk, The Netherlands) Functional relocation of yeast mitochondrial genes to the nucleus (C. Jacq, Paris, France) Plant transformation systems: achievements and problems (L. Herrera-EstreHa, Irapuato, Mexico) The use of plants as a production system for biological peptides (E. Krebbers, Ghent, Belgium) Yersinia: a model of regulation of pathogenicity functions (G. Cornelis, Brussels, Belgium) Transgenic animals: recent progress and applications (J.-P. Lecocq, Strasbourg, France) Cellular mechanism for the control of extracellular matrix genes (B. de Crombrugghe, Houston, TX) Invited lectures and selected contributions will be refereed and published in Gene.
