Gibbs Leadership Prize Announcement: Best Manuscript of 2011 The Editorial Board of Women’s Health Issues is pleased to announce that the Charles E. Gibbs Leadership Prize for the best paper published in Women’s Health Issues in 2011 (Volume 21) has been awarded to Jacqueline L. Angel, PhD, Professor of Public Affairs and Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. She is also a Faculty Affiliate at the Population Research Center and LBJ School Center for Health and Social Policy at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research addresses the relationships linking family structures, inequality, and health across the life course, including a special focus on older Hispanics. She is particularly interested in evaluating the impact of social policies on the health and well-being of aging immigrants. Dr. Angel’s Policy Matters manuscript, “A Window of Vulnerability: Health Insurance Coverage Among Women 55 to 64 Years of Age,” was co-authored with her colleagues at the University of Texas at Austin, Jennifer Karas Montez, MS, MA, and Ronald J. Angel, PhD. The manuscript was published in Women’s Health Issues Volume 21, Issue 1 (January/February 2011), pages 6 through 11. The Charles E. Gibbs Leadership Prize is awarded annually to recognize excellence in research on women’s health care or policy. Priority is given to manuscripts that report the results of original research and that improve understanding of an important women’s health issue. Members of the staff and Editorial Board of Women’s Health Issues are not eligible. The prize includes a $1,000 award. The Editorial Board also designated two excellent manuscripts to receive “Honorable Mention:” “Increasing Discussions of Intimate Partner Violence in Prenatal Care Using Video Doctor Plus Provider Cueing: A Randomized, Controlled Trial,” written by Janice Humphreys, PhD, RN, NP, Janice Y. Tsoh, PhD, Michael A. Kohn, MD, MPP, and Barbara Gerbert, PhD. Published in

The Charles E. Gibbs Leadership Prize was established to honor the Jacobs Institute’s founding Board President for his leadership in women’s health. Charles E. Gibbs, MD (1923–2000) was a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and past chair of ACOG’s Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women, the Task Force on the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care, the Health Care Commission, and the Task Force on Maternal Health Policy. Dr. Gibbs served on the Jacobs Institute’s Board of Governors from 1990 to 1999 and was instrumental in shaping its mission and structure.
