LUCS broaden program range Systems Professional, a iibrary of more than 30 computer programs developed in the USA to handle the analysis, design and management functions of a modern structuralengineering practice, has been added to the LUCS range of engineering programs. The library comprises programs which can design many common types of steel, concrete, masonry ana timber structures, and can analyse such compiex systems as shear wails. Aiso added to LUCS services is the SEAS computer system~ which can be used to design, analyse and certify oil and gas drilling structures. ANSYS, the finite-element suite, has been upgraded. Revision 3 includes improved elements, expanded analysis capabilities and new input, output and graphic techniques, interactive plotting is enhanced and there is a choice of coordinate systems, interactive or batch modes of input. Elements can be reordered to optimize wave fronts. This version also provides extensive preprocessing; it can generate meshs and boundary conditions and convert piping. Coordinate axes can be generated interactive[y, three-dimensional and section plots can also be output. Another finite-element package is GIFTS, which enables engineers to generate models for static and dynamic analysis, and interactivety edit, amend and verify them at will. To achieve this, GIFTS comprises a library of finite elements, which includes rods, beams and membranes,
bending and su~0s~ructuiing, a;-la has ~n analytical capability spanning !inear static, natura! vibration, transient response and modal analyses. For microwave circuit engineers, COMPACT (computerized optimization of microwave passive and active circuits has been introduced to aid the design of !inear circuits in the high frequency/ microwave region. The program accepts active and passive elements as weii as comptex interconnections.

Genesys has bought an 8124 24 in (610 mm) electrostatic plotter from Versatec as part of a turnkey development for Bison Concrete. Versatec's Versaptot software will be adapted so that output from systems running under Gino-F on Bison Concrete's Honeywell 64/20 computer can be plotted offline. The 8124 will be used to produce engineering drawings of precast floor
