when specifying a MIM material. Minimum values expressed in terms of yield strength (0.2% offset method), ultimate tensUe strength (UTS) and percentage elongation are cited. In addition to listing minimum m e c h a n i c a l p r o p e r t y values, 'typical' values for IYrs, yield strength, elongation, density, and apparent and microhardness values are given. A MIM material designation coding system has been a d o p t e d and m i n i m u m and m a x i m u m chemistry composi-

covers the MIM 4600, 4650 and 2700 materials. Stainless steel d a t a is given for t h e MIM 316L, D u p l e x (316L), and 17-4 PH materials. The MPIF claims that the new standard will help t h e u s e r to s e l e c t a n d specify the exact MIM material and properties most suitable for a specific application. Swedish cemented carbide producer. According to the Wall Street Journal Europe, 1992 pretax profit dropped to SKrl.53 billion from SKrl.92 billion in 1991. Sales fell 1.9% to SKr17.22 billion. "We expect both turnover and profit to increase in 1993", says the world's largest producer of cemented carbide inserts. The improved forecast is largely based on the firm's increased competitiveness as a result of depreciation of the Swedish krona. Demand for its products is likely to remain depressed in 1993, says the company.

Device sinters carbide parts in five minutes SINTERING can be achieved in just five minutes using a new device from Sodick Mechatec of Japan. Metal p o w d e r is loaded between two electrodes of the HSSS high-speed sintering device and a high-energy discharge sinters the material. A high vacuum or reducing atmosphere is not required, says Sodick. Using the device cemented carbide parts can be s i n t e r e d to n e a r - n e t - s h a p e . Cermets can also be sintered in the device. The HSS 0504 will be cost ¥ 10 million and the HSSS 1005, ¥ 1 2 million. S o d i c k Mechatec; tel: + 81-45-922-3123. (c).
