Global desalination market is worth $18.37 billion says Visiongain report
A
nalysis conducted by UK-based independent media company Visiongain Ltd indicates that the global desalination market will reach a value of $18.37 billion in 2012, as municipalities and private companies invest in desalination for populations, while major industries require more clean water for expansion. According to the lead analyst of the report entitled ‘The Global Desalination Market 2012–2022’, desalination is a growing market for both governments and the private sector, as water scarcity becomes an ever more pressing issue in many regions 16

of the world. While the prolific growth in the desalination market forecast a few years back is no longer expected, population and industrial growth will still drive demand for purified water, says the report. Desalination projects remain a priority for economic growth, particularly in arid or densely populated regions. Visiongain provides forecasts for the period 2012–2022 in terms of value (US$) for the global desalination market, breaking this down into sub-markets – reverse and forward osmosis; multi-stage flash and multi-effect distillation; electrodialysis and electro-deionisation; and alternative and hybrid desalina-
tion technologies. In addition, seven regional desalination markets are covered and analysed by the firm over the period 2012–2022, and major desalination projects in 36 of the biggest national markets are also discussed. The study provides profiles of 46 leading companies operating within the market place, and includes four interviews with principal desalination companies, providing expert insight alongside Visiongain’s analysis.
