Valve sales to reach $50 billion
French are Grundfos’ best supplier
Largest single order for John Crane
In 2004 sales of Industrial valves worldwide were just under $40 billion and it is reported that by 2010, annual sales will exceed $50 billion. The McIlvaine Company report is optimistic and sees the market continuing to grow for a number of reasons:
On 6 June 2005 Grundfos awarded the prize for this year’s best supplier – the Grundfos Supplier Award. The award was given to French company Nexans Winding Wires (former Alcatel Cable), a Grundfos supplier for more than 20 years.
John Crane has received its largest single order for its advanced LaserFace sealing technology. The 262.000 order is for the Hydrofluoric (HF) Acid Alkylation plant at Sarroch, in Sardinia, which is operated by Saras.
(1) Water infrastructure needs in developing countries: the move of the rural population to cities is greatly increasing the need for water and wastewater treatment systems. By 2010 this will be an $8 billion market for valves. (2) Rapid increase in energy supply: China is increasing coalfired electrical generating capacity at a rate in excess of
Godwin prize John Michael Paz, president, Godwin Pumps, has been awarded the Ernst & Young ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award’ by professional services firm Ernst & Young LLP. Paz was selected from 20 finalists in the Greater Philadelphia & Central-Eastern Pennsylvania region by an independent panel of judges comprising local business, academic and community leaders. Graduating in 1978 John joined Godwin Pumps, the company, founded in 1976 by Paz Brothers Construction, Bridgeport, NJ. The company rented portable dewatering pumps to the construction market and held the exclusive rights to manufacture and sell the Godwin Dri-Prime pump in North America. In 1985, Paz assumed the role of President. He opened the first Godwin Pumps rental office in 1990. With home offices on two continents, branch offices across the US and distributor locations worldwide, Godwin employs over 500 people and realizes sales in excess of $130 million.

10% per year. India and other developing Asian countries are increasingly turning to coal for future electricity needs. A coal plant requires four times the investment in valves as does a combined cycle gas turbine plant. (3) Industrial expansion in Asia: the need for cement, iron and steel, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other products in Asia is continuing to result in increases in valve revenues. (4) Synthetic oil development: the Sasol complex in South Africa has more valves than any other facility in the world. It produces gasoline from coal. Larger versions of this plant are under development in China.
As a reason for selecting Nexans for the award, Grundfos said that, together with Nexans, the pump company was able to build up a good, flexible relationship and communication, particularly due to the establishment of a stock hotel ensuring 100% delivery performance without timeconsuming ordering and confirmation processes.
The seal is intended primarily for use in difficult applications and offers high reliability in low pressure temperature margins, a traditional problem when sealing light hydrocarbon-based products. Although John Crane has provided similar solutions to other HF plants, the system supplied to Saras will be tailored to meet its specific requirements.
New chairman at Allweiler AG
PCM wins Israel water contract
From mid-March 2005 Klaus Stahlmann became CEO and chairman of the executive board at Allweiler and Frank Kirchner is the CFO and member of the executive board.
PCM has won a contract to supply 12 chemical dosing skids for a new filtration plant at Israel's Mekorot Water Company. Existing systems are considered to be inadequate for the new works and more pumps will be required to handle a higher volume of chemicals.
This follows management restructuring earlier in the year of the Colfax Corporation, Allweiler's US parent company. The company now focuses exclusively on technologies and applications that are directly related to pumping liquid media. The power transmission
segment has now been sold. The current corporate structure places the greatest weight on Allweiler AG. Mr Stahlmann will continue his responsibilities as vice-president of the Colfax Group for the entire group's sales in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East. Frank Kirchner, until now director of finance in Europe, will, as before as the chief financial officer, be responsible for all commercial and financial issues.
Amarinth supplies PPL Amarinth, a UK company specialising in the design, application and manufacture of pumps for the chemical, gas and oil industries has won an order to supply 10 bespoke pumping units for Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) of Karachi. PPL, the largest natural gas producer in Pakistan, chose Ranhill as its
contractor, which in turn placed the order from Amarinth. The pumps will be installed at PPL’s Adhi Gas Processing Plant II situated in the district of Chakwal near Rawalpindi and will deliver liquid petroleum gas from the refinery to the bottling plant.
As part of the project, PCM will supply the skids to house Milton Roy pumps and ancillary equipment. Assembled and factory tested at PCM's works, the units will deliver a number of chemicals to dosing points around the new filtration plant. Skid interface with the services will be electrical terminal boxes mounted on the sides of the skids and pipe bulkhead connections. Mekorot is the national water supplier in Israel, supplying 1.3 billion cu.m of water annually, accounting for 90% of the country's drinking water and 70% of the overall water supply.
