DEFECTS IN SEMICONDUCTORS Materials Research Society Symposium Boston, MA, USA, 16-21 November 1980 The Materials Research Society Symposium on Defects in Semiconductors will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, from 16-21 November 1980. The purpose of this symposium is to address new advances in defect characterization techniques and fundamental aspects of defects in semiconductors. Attention will be focussed on ion implantation, electron and neutron damage, and defects associated with crystal growth and various device fabrication processes. The contributed papers shouldbe submitted under the following categories: I. Defect characterization techniques; II. Point defects and radiation damage in semiconductors; III. Crystal-growth and defects associated with various device fabrication processes. Abstracts are due on July 1, 1980. Manuscripts are due on November 15, 1980. The papers are to be published by North-Holland. The titles for the contributed papers should be sent by May 11, 1980, to: Dr. J. Narayan, Solid State Division, Oak Ridge National Lab., Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830,.USA; phone (615)574-5508; FTS 624-5508, or to: Dr. T.Y. Tan, IBM, Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York 10598, USA; phone (914)945-2378.

Chairmen will be R. Ueda (films), J.E. Rowe (surface electronics), and R.L. Park (surfaces). This conference addresses common areas of film and surface science through a format of plenary lectures of general interest and contributed papers on more specialized topics. Abstracts of contributed papers on surface electronics, films and surface science will be accepted for consideration through March 1, 1981. Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection within two weeks of receipt of their abstract. Manuscripts will be required at the time of the conference for publication in Applications of'Surface Science. Abstracts and enquiries should be sent to: 2nd International Conference on Solid Films and Surfaces, Professor R.L. Park, CoChairman, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland 120742, USA.
