A 3D metal halide framework in the organiceinorganic compound (H3N(CH2)2SS(CH2)2NH3)3Pb5I16
Solid State Sci. 2008, 10, 1269
Nicolas Louvain, Nicolas Mercier* Laboratoire de Chimie, Inge´nierie Mole´culaire et Mate´riaux d’Angers, UMR-CNRS 6200, Universite´ d’Angers, 2 Bd Lavoisier, 49045 Angers, France The three-dimensional iodoplumbate framework-based hybrid (H3N(CH2)2SS(CH2)2NH3)3Pb5I16 involving the diprotonated cystamine molecule has been prepared. The 3D Pb5I16 polymeric anion results from corner-, edge- or face-sharing octahedra, and can be described as connected staircase-like sheets. The formation of such an unprecedented 3D network can be partly attributed to the interactions between I atoms from the inorganic network and S atoms from the organic ligands.

Towards the understanding of poor electrochemical activity of triclinic LiVOPO4: Experimental characterization and theoretical investigations
Solid State Sci. 2008, 10, 1292
Yong Yang, Haisheng Fang, Jing Zheng, Liping Li, Guangshe Li*, Guofeng Yan State Key Lab of Structural Chemistry, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fuzhou 350002, PR China The poor electrochemical performance of triclinic LiVOPO4 as cathode for lithium ion batteries may be caused by the very low electronic conductivity of this material at room temperature.

Large-scale growth and shape evolution of micrometer-sized Cu2O cubes with concave planes via g-irradiation
Solid State Sci. 2008, 10, 1322
Weifeng Miao, Huarong Liu*, Zengming Zhang, Jiafu Chen Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Joint Laboratory of Polymer Thin Films and Solution, University of Science and Technology of China, Jinzai Road, Hefei, Anhui 230026, PR China Single-crystalline micrometer-sized Cu2O cubes with concave planes were synthesized through nucleation and anisotropic crystal growth processes via gamma-irradiation under ambient conditions without using any surfactant. Unlike most of other methods, our experiments are carried out under mild conditions, hydrated electrons generated through g-radiolysis of water act as reducing agent. The band gap of the asprepared products calculated from the UVevis spectrum corresponds to 2.53 eV, another value of 1.97 eV hints excitonic discrete energy level in forbidden band of as-prepared Cu2O material.
