The author, Dean of Women at the E a s t e r n School for Physicians' Aides in N e w York, is the author of an excellent earlier t e x t entitled Handbook for the Medical Secretary. This volume is planned for the medical assistant in the doctor's office and covers the material which, in her experience, the medical assistant must know: physical therapy, sterilization, first aid, office surgery, and similar topics. I t is a timely subject as medical assistants are being increasingly used in physicians' offices. The duties of an assistant will vary according to the particular specialty, and many physicians therefore have trained their own office assistants to meet their needs.

The author is British and is decidedly censorius of the political and social aspects of the development of nuclear power in his country.
