Australia-headquartered GUD Holdings Ltd has four business segments: Consumer, Automotive, Water and Industrial. Water Products includes Davey water pumps and associated equipment including salt water chlorinators, swimming pool filters, RainBank rainwater controllers, Firefighter pumps, Steriflo UV water treatment units, Filterpure cartridge filtration and Microlene water purifiers. The Davey brand is long-established in Australia and has a strong presence in New Zealand and in selected international markets. Analysis
The Water Products business had a second consecutive year of reduced demand in financial year 2012 due to prolonged wet and cool weather experienced in Australia, while export sales were affected by the strength of the Australian dollar and economic uncertainty in Southern Europe. As a result Water saw an 8% reduction in sales over the prior year and a 17% decrease in underlying profitability (EBIT).
COMMENT With significant new product launches in the second half of FY12 and into FY13, the Water business is well placed to benefit from the upturn in demand when the Australian weather improves, and the Southern European economies like Spain and Portugal start to recover. ■
