Haden oxidiser cuts Linpac emissions Haden Drysys Environmental, the Birminghambased supplier of environmental systems has completed the installation of thermal oxidiser equipment worth almost f400,OOO for Linpac Metal Decorating Company, in South Wales. The thermal oxidiser was necessary to abate the VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions given off during Linpac’s lacquering and varnishing processes. Haden say the oxidiser cleans a process exhaust volume of 22,000 Nm3/hr which arises from two wicket ovens on the production line - effectively destroying the vast majority of VOC and leaving no more than 50 mg/Nm3/hr . In addition, all the ducting which serves the ovens was also provided by Haden. Haden Drysys Environmental, Swan Office Ctr, Road, 1506 Coventry Yard/e& Birmingham, 825 8AD, UK. Environmental Technology markets emerge in Brazil Environmental Brazil ‘98, the international exhibition for Environmental Technologies, will take place in Rio de Janeiro on 8 - 11 June 1998. Environment Brazil ‘98 is organized by the German organizer Gima, which runs exhibitions and conferences in South America, Russia and countries of the CIS and Asia. Gima report that international exhibitors will present their products and services in the sectors of water treatment and technology, waste collection and recycling, air cleaning, soil decontamination and alternative energy sources to decision makers and key buyers from Brazil and the surrounding regions. Gima add that Brazil is politically the most stable among the five important emerging markets - the

extensive privatisation program (total allocation US$800 billion) is almost completed. In addition, Gima say this is one of the fastest growing markets for environmental technologies and services in the world. In 1995, this sector generated a turnover of US$2.5 billion. Until the year 2000, the US Ministry of Trade expects a 5 to 7 % annual increase in the turnover, with the projects for sanitation in the Guanabara and Sepetiba Bays as well as in the Rio Paraibo do Sul region, illustrating that Brazilian efforts are concentrating on water treatment. As the main cause of the pollution of Guanabara Bay, the two harbours, the oil terminals and the 2,000 filling stations in the area receive governmental sup-

port to invest in environmental protection technology. In 1996, US$900 million was invested in water supply and sewage treatment US$750 million plants, flowed into waste and recycling technologies, and US$150 million was used to improve air cleaning techaccording to nologies, Gima. Finally, the trade show will be supported among others by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Rio de Janeiro State Industry, Secretary of Commerce and Tourism, the Environmental Assessment Association of the USA and the Business Council for Sustainable Development (Brazil). InterFlow Expo rescheduled for Powdex 6 98 Effective immediately, Reed Exhibition Companies (REC) has announced the rescheduling of the Inter-Flow Expo to be held as a pavilion during Powdex ‘98 on October 21 - 22 1998, Secaucus, NJ. The InterFlow Expo was originally due to take place alongside the Powder & Bulk Solids ConferencelExpo at Rosemont, Illinois in early May. Reed say the marriage of Powdex and InterFlow Expo creates a comprehensive processing event, delivering both “wet” and “dry” processing attendees. Powdex is the regional spin-off event of Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/Exhibition, the largest event in the world dedicated to the processing, handling, packaging, storage and transportation of dry particulate matter and bulk solids. InterFlow E x p o i s a forum for the latest fluid handling products, innovative solutions and cutting edge technologies. In its new location, InterFlow Expo will be at the heart of the nation’s powerful chemical, pharmaceutical, and food markets. Reed say some of the product categories that will be represented in the InterFlow Expo Pavilion include: pumps, valves, control software, flowmeters, sensors, filters, fittings, couplings, leak detectors, monitors, piping, pressure gauges, and fieldbuses. “Our decision to reschedule InterFlow Expo was based upon a number of factors including exhibitor feedback, the strength of the processing mid-Atlantic market, and conflicts with said events,” related Cynthia Strachan of Reed Exhibitions.
