PUBLIC HEALTH deals with the subject in a general way, giving brief r&um~s of experiences and practices provided by various districts to illustrate the points made. Useful chapters are included on refuse and heat, the design and arrangement of plant to meet general and special requirements, refuse separation, and incineration. Accounting, costing and statistical records are dealt with in an appendix. The book is well documented and well produced. It will provide a useful work of reference for all concerned in the many problems involved in the disposal by incineration of house and similar refuse in bulk.

JANUARY this handbook in 1899--justifiably claims in his preface that, notwithstanding the amount of new legislation which is now dealt with, the book is still rightly described as a " handbook" of a size that easily fits the pocket. Indeed its production and printing are very clear and the index is most adequate. Wewish the Handbook continued life and usefulness.
