Headquarters Staff to Assist at Congress

M

embers of Headquarters staff attend the annual AORN Congress to assist members, exhibitors, and guests. They will work in various areas of the George R. Brown Convention Center during precongress and Congress to ensure that every aspect of Congress, from registration through Closing Session, is successful. AORN members can take this opportunity to get acquainted with members of the Headquarters staff. If you have any questions or suggestions, do not hesitate to talk with a staff member. Congress staff members will wear green ribbons attached to their badges.

Clifford H. Jordan, RN, executive director, is in charge of the Headquarters staff at Congress and in Denver. During Congress, he will serve as a resource person for department directors and the Board of Directors. He will attend House of Delegates sessions and Forums.

Anne Kolego, executive assistant to the executive director, will staff the Board and Staff SeMces office during Congress. She will schedule appointments for the Board, staff, and parliamentarian and handle questions on Association matters. 78

Accounting Department

T

he Accounting Department will handle all accounting needs and operate the Bookstore. The office services division will handle shipping and distribution of supplies and equipment needed at Congress.

Donna Krowen, director of accounting/office services, will supervise the accounting staff and all accounting and banking functions at Congress.

Jackie O’Hare, assistant director of accounting, will supervise the Accounting Ofice at Congress. She will assist in orienting and supervising cashiers in the registration area, Bookstore, and bus ticket sales area.

Dale Anacker,assistant director of office services, will supervise packing and distribution of all Congress materials for staff offices and education sessions.

Marty Zweber, receiving clerk, will assist with packing and distributing all Congress materials for staff offices and education sessions.

Catherine Adolphson, accounting assistant, will perform initial data entry of on-site registration, help set up the Accounting Office, and assist with bus ticket sales and in the Bookstore.

Shirley Jordan, accounting clerk, will set up and supervise the Bookstore. 82

Education Department

T

he Education Department arranges all preCongress seminars and Congress continuing education sessions. The staff is responsible for evaluating and selecting program topics, arranging for moderators and speakers, and awarding contact hours for sessions attended.

Jan Hixon, RN, director of education, will supervise the Education Department in the implementation of Congress education sessions and pre-Congress seminars. She also will supervise staff members who will be available in the Bookstore and education section of the AORN Booth. 84

Diane Howery, RN, assistant director of education/continuing education, will coordinate implementation of education sessions and preCongress seminars. She will be a liaison with the Houston Local Planning Committee on monitoring responsibilities.

Dorothy Fogg, RN, assistant director of education/consultation, will assist in the Headquarters Office and be available in the consultation section of the AORN Booth. She will staff pre-Congress and Congress education sessions.

Jody Foss, RN, assistant director of education,’ credentialing, will supervise the continuing education scan sheet room. She will staff preCongress seminars and the education section of the AORN Booth. 85

Mary O’Neale, RN, consultative specialist, will assist in the consultation section of the AORN Booth and at the Bookstore. She will staff preCongress seminars.

Joan Dale, continuing education secretary, will staff the continuing education scan card room. She will assist with pre-Congress seminars.

Linda Brazen, RN, continuing education specialist, will assist with education session implementation. She will staff pre-Congress seminars, the Bookstore, and the education section of the AORN Booth.

Shuwnu McMunn, program assistant, will supervise the Speaker/Guest Room and will be responsible for on-site registration of speakers and guests.

Lisa Wyunt,continuing education secretary, will coordinate activities at the Congress Headquarters Office including scheduling impromptu meetings and referring questions to the proper person.

Information Systems Department

T

he Information Systems Department will handle information processing needs at Congress including registration, payments, and housing for nurses, exhibitors, and speakers.

Daniel Novuk, director of information systems, will supervise information systems personnel as they troubleshoot personal computers at Congress and set up personal computer systems in various offices, the AORN Booth, and the datacard service area. He will demonstrate OR software at the information systems section of the AORN Booth.

John Shivur, assistant director of information systemddata base administrator, will set up and maintain personal computer systems in the registration area, Message Center, and ancillary areas. He will troubleshoot computer problems related to on-site registration data entry in the general and exhibitor areas.

Diane Schmaus, RN, nurse systems analyst, will demonstrate software in the information systems section of the AORN Booth and conduct user meetings.

John Hilliard, analyst/programmer, will demonstrate OR software, assist with datacard voting, and provide personal computer maintenance. 92

Lou Sorenson, computer operator/programmer, will set up and supervise checkout and return of datacard imprinters for exhibiting companies.

Meeting Services Department

T

he Meeting Services Department arranges Congress site locations, hotel accommodations and registration, exhibits, and Convention Center facilities.

Sylvia Rottman, director of meeting services, is responsible for overall convention management. She will be based in the Headquarters Office.She also is a member of the Exhibitors’ Advisory Committee. 94

Christine Lindmark, exhibits manager, will coordinate AORN Booth setup, all exhibit setup and management, and pre-event meetings with Convention Center staff. She also is a member of the Exhibitors’ Advisory Committee.

Jaiy Zeman, convention specialist, will act as a liaison to the Convention Center staff regarding catering, oflice setup, equipment installation, and meeting room checks.

Nancy Russell, exhibits secretary, will assist with set up and dismantling of exhibitor registration and monitor the convention exhibit area.

Alice Ragona, travel/special arrangements coordinator, will supervise exhibitor registration. She also is the official Congress registered professional parliamentarian.

Membership Department

T

he Membership Department will process new member applications, supervise delegate/ alternate registration and credentialing changes, and coordinate voting activities. The Membership Department will coordinate the OR Nurse Day display and provide information to chapter officers and members throughout Congress week.

Lola Fehr, RN, director of membership, will supervise delegate registration and voting. She will lead the pre-Congress seminar “AORN Chapter President’s Forum.”

Gail Shanks, membership marketing specialist, will supervise the OR Nurse Day display and Captain’s Project activities.

Polly Walters, chapter and committee specialist, will coordinate delegatelalternate registration and credentialingchanges. 100

Publications Department

T

he Publications Department staff will prepare the daily Congress News on-site and will report Congress activities in the post-Congress issue of the AORN Journal. Staff members will be responsible for registering members of the press and sending press releases about Congress events to the media.

Pat Palmer, RN, director of publications/editorial, will supervise the editorial staff in reporting preCongress seminars, education sessions, and official functions at Congress for use in the Congress News and AORN Journal. 101

Jo Ann Sunsen, director of publications/business, will supervise the production staff preparing the Congress News. She will assist with press registration and public relations at Congress.

Susan Schlepp, assistant editor, will report on preCongress seminars and Congress activities for the Congress News. She will prepare all press releases to the media regarding AORN elections.

Barbara Ery,graphic arts specialist, will photograph pre-Congress seminars,education sessions, and Congress activities for the Congress News and the post-Congress issue of the AORN Journal.

Location of Headquarters Staff at Congress

Specialty Discussion Groups at Congress

Headquarters staff offices are located on level I1 of the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Headquarters Office is located in Room 209. All technical aspects related to meetings and exhibits and scheduling of impromptu on-site meetings will be handled in this office. The lost-and-found also is located in the Headquarters Office. Public relations and press registration will be handled in Rooms 210. Congress attendees can obtain information about the AORN Journal and provide input or changes for Congress News in Room 211 and 212. The Board and Staff Services Office is located in Room 214. This office handles the scheduling of appointments for the Board of Directors, staff members, and the parliamentarian during Congress. Questions regarding Association matters should be directed to staff members in the Board and Staff Services Office.

Specialty discussion groups will meet on Tuesday, March 20, from 7 to 8:45 AM. The groups will meet at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Rooms 307,308, and 309. AORN provides rooms for members to meet and discuss special interests and topics, but AORN does not organize these groups. Members who are attending Congress and are interested in facilitating a specific group must return the specialty discussion group form that is provided in Congress packets from Headquarters. Examples of specialty discussion groups that met at the 1989 Congress are ambulatory surgery, laser, quality assurance, research, RN first assistant, and management.
