Stabilizer reduces yellowing in compounding

Expancel, of Sweden, markets microsphere fillers, for use in thermoplastics which expand on heating to lOO-200°C. Tradenamed Expancel DU, the fillers are currently used in RIM, PVC plastisols, and phenolic resins. A development grade, 091 DU, is said to be promising for extrusion and injection moulding. Vanox 931 is a stabilizer system from R.T. Vanderbilt Co, USA, which is said to reduce the yellowing that sometimes occurs during compounding, and also provides long-term heat ageing characteristics. Contact: RT Vanderbilt Co, 30 Winfield Street, Norwalk, CT 06855, USA. Tel: +l203-853-I 400.

High and low molecular weight light stabilizers With the three grades of Hostavin N20, Hostavin N24 and Hostavin N30, Hoechst offers high and low molecular weight stabilizers based on sterically hindered amines. Their efficacy helps to overcome previously experienced limitations in the use of HALS. As a result of their good compatibility with quenchers, a number of absorbers, antioxidants and, finally, the almost unlimited possibilities for combining the three products with one another, many polymers can be permanently and reliably stabilized against degradation by UV radiation in all conceivable fields of application. The homogenous distribution of the Hostavin HALS products in the polymer material is decisive to their reliable action. In order to facilitate this at the low quantities of 0.1-1.0 phr required, and at the same time to avoid dust formation when mixing, Hoechst also offers the light stabilizers in various combinations and with different carrier materials as granulated ready-to-process products under the name Hostavin System. Amide waxes as slip and antiblocking agents Abril Industrial Waxes in the UK markets two synthetic amide waxes which function as slip and antiblocking agents. Paradigan Wax 77 has a melting point of 78-82°C and is for use in sheet and film. Paradigan Wax 90 has a melting point of llO-114°C and acts as a slip and antiblocking agent in nylons and in PVC film.
