Historian’s report The Twenty-ninth Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Allergy was held in Washington, D. C., at the Washington Hilton Hotel on February 12, 13, and 14, 1973. At the meeting there were 432 Fellows present, 446 members, 120 residents and interns, 267 guest physicians, and 73 speakers. The total attendance was 1,332 physicians. This was a new all-time record attendance. There were also 370 ladies, 241 exhibitors, and 25 members of the press present at the meeting. It was announced that the meeting in 1974 will be held in Bal Harbour, Florida, at the Americana Hotel from January 19 to 23. The meeting in 1975 will be held in San Diego, California, at t,he Town and Country Hotel on February 7 to 12. The annual meeting was preceded by a postgraduate course for a period of 2 days. During the meeting 102 scientific papers were presented in the scientific sessions. Honorary Fellowship in the Academy of Allergy was bestowed upon Dr. Robert A. Good. honor and influence in medicine in general, or in allergy in particular. Honolnry Fellows shrill be nominated by the Committee on Awnrds, Memorials and Commemorative Lectureships and elected by the Ezeczctiwe Committee. Honorary Fellows shall not have the right to hold office, to vote, or to sponsor applicants for membership categories unless they have been advanced to Honorary status from Fellowship, in which case they shall retain their previous rights. They shall pay no dws, hut may receive the official Journal of the Academy at cost, if they so choose.

Participants in competitive athletics with asthma and other allergic conditions should not be disqualified because of the use, with medical supervision, of therapeutic doses of ephedrine before and during athletic competition. While recognizing that acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) is a valuable drug, the American Academy of Allergy recommends that a formulation containing aspirin and advertisements promoting the formulation should clearly indicate that the preparation contains aspirin and that aspirin can be harmful to some persons.
