128 an indication of the ever widening acceptance of homoeopathy as a healing art. The inability of animals to communicate by speech might be seen as a handicap to drug selection, but in truth, while they could not inform, neither could his patients deceive. They did not, as far as he was aware, suffer from subjective symptoms such as headaches, but showed easily observable reactions to eye pain, toothache and limb pain (i.e. lameness). Family history was difficult to obtain unless there was a known pedigree or an accredited breeder who could be relied upon to give information frankly. However, even a small amount of reliable past history was invaluable in drug selection. As a late replacement for Dr Jenkins, who was unable to attend, the Symposium heard an interesting talk by Dr Anthony Campbell, Consultant Physician to the Royal London

British Homceopathic Journal

Homceopathic Hospital and former editor of the

British Homceopathic Journal. He outlined the history of the Hospital since its foundation by Quin in Golden Square, from where it moved to its present location in 1900. Throughout the whole period of its existence it had had to fight to survive against the twin forces of prejudice and ignorance. He produced a statistical breakdown of present-day attendances at Out Patients. In 1986 there were 4,126 new patients and 19,024 re-attendances, but a disturbing feature was the 25% who defaulted from appointments. After tea the final talk of the day was given by Dr Barry Rose, Faculty tutor and general practitioner from Northwich, who gave the clinical picture of the remedy Lachesis. P. Jo E D W I N ,
