The inability of animals to communicate by speech might be seen as a handicap to drug selection, but in truth, while they could not inform, neither could his patients deceive. They did not, as far as he was aware, suffer from subjective symptoms such as headaches, but showed easily observable reactions to eye pain, toothache and limb pain (i.e. lameness). Throughout the whole period of its existence it had had to fight to survive against the twin forces of prejudice and ignorance. He produced a statistical breakdown of present-day attendances at Out Patients. In 1986 there were 4,126 new patients and 19,024 re-attendances, but a disturbing feature was the 25% who defaulted from appointments. Homeopatia Universalis A n historical event The first International homGeopathic congress organized by Homeopatia Universalis (International Confederation of Homceopathic and Biotherapeutic Societies---ICHBS) will be held on 22-26 June 1988 in Naxos Beach, Sicily. This congress, taking place under the blue sky of the Mediterranean, close to Catania and Mount Etna, is thus planned in surroundings propitious to reflection. Homeopatia Universalis includes all homoeopathic medical societies throughout the world, all aiming for the same goal: to widen the practice of modern homoeopathy, well-suited to medical needs. In Europe, Homeopatia Universalis iS now represented in Spain, Portugal; Belgium, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, and, naturally, France. It is present in the USA, Tunisia, Israel and Canada. Fellow members

from all these countries will find this international congress an occasion to meet, discover mutual friendship, and, above all, exchange interesting experience in practice. Famous physicians such as Professors Bastide, Veroux, Imbesi and Delbois will attend, so that research will be duly represented. The themes of the congress will cover all aspects of homoeopathic practice, always with reference to Hahnemann's Organon, and this international meeting will demonstrate the tremendous youthfulness ofhomceopathy, given further impetus by Mediterranean-inspired thought and boosted by the spirit of scientific research and clinical findings.
