KOCH MEMBRANE BUYS FLUID SYSTEMS FROM ANGLIAN WATER Z

Koch Membrane Systems Inc has acquired Fluid Systems Corporation, a San Diegobased reverse osmosis (RO) membrane manufacturer, from Anglian Water pie. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Combining Koch Membrane and Fluid Systems will create an organisation with more than 60 years of experience in a p p l y i n g membrane separalions for industries including water, food, dairy, industrial waste, paper and automotive. "We're very excited about joining the Koch team," said Randy Truby, president of Fluid Systems, adding that many membrane systems operating globally already have a combination of Koch and Fluid Systems membrane products. Koch has been manufacturing membranes and systems since 1967. Its product line includes the Abcor, RomiPure, SelRO and C A R B O - C O R membranes. Fluid Systems has been a pioneer in RO membrane technology, including the first commercial thin-film composite membrane, TFC. Koch Membrane Systems inc, headquartered in Wihnington,

is a subsidiary of Koch Industries Inc which is headquartered in Wichita, Kansas.

CONSLER ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PROGRAMME Consler Filtration Products, the H o n e o y e Falls, N e w Y o r k - b a s e d d e s i g n e r and manufacturer of industrial filtration systems, has started a two year expansion prog r a m m e that will increase production space by 50 per cent.

The plant expansion will also provide increased manufacturing capabilities to support new product development. The expansion programme will be i m p l e m e n t e d in three phases. The first phase will relocate the filter element manufacturing component of Consler's business to a facility separate from Consler's filter housing manufacturing. A two year lease has been signed for a building adjacent to Consler's Honeoye Falls facility and the move will be completed this month. The second phase of the expansion plan includes renovation and capital improvements at C o n s l e r ' s existing site. The renovation plans have been developed in conjunction with the Rochester Institute of T e c h n o l o g y ' s Center for Integrated Manufacture and Studies (CIMS). Capital improvements include a new layout, increased manufacturing space, state of the art welding stations, a glass bead cleaning booth, and an overhead crane system. Consler will invest nearly US$500 000 in the plant i m p r o v e m e n t s , which are expected to be completed by October 1998. The third phase of Consler's plant expansion plan involves a new building at its Honeoye Falls site, dedicated to the design, testing and manufacturing of filter elements. Ground breaking for the new

facility is expected in the summer of 1999, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2000.

HUBNER SELLS AFFCO A m e r i c a n Felt & Filter C o m p a n y ( A F F C O ) has been a c q u i r e d by W i l s o n (Bill) H Pryne, the company's president. Chairman Cornelius (Bud) E Hubner, who has owned the company since 1978, has sold the business to Pryne, president of the firm since 1996 and an A F F C O employee since 1967. He is only the fifth president since the company was founded in 1899. Hubner will be retained as a consultant and will continue to serve as the chairman of the US Business and Industrial Council, a Washington DC-based national business advocacy group. AFFCO has manufacturing facilities in Newburgh, New York, where the company is headquartered, and in New Windsor, New York, and Westerly, Rhode Island. A manufacturer of engineered nonwovens, AFFCO distributes its industrial fabrics worldwide for use in specific applications, including indoor air quality, respiratory protection, personal and equipment protection, process filtration, healthcare, and pollution control.
