Due to the novel arrangement of the internal configuration, the electric field (voltage gradient) around the loop is extremely high, which increases the sensitivity and enables the discharge to be initiated at pressure below 1 O-5 torr.
arrangement, where it eliminates the need for two separate valves, and avoids the associated confusion usually causing wrong valve operation, inadvertently letting unwanted air into the work chamber etc.
The usual deposition of semi-conducting fractions of cracked hydro-carbons onto the anode insulator has been eliminated by the action of our patented electronic shielding device, which deflects back the charged fractions and leaves the anode insulator unimpaired and clean, with the leakage resistance to earth unchanged from new.
Further it radically simplifies the equivalent pipeline gaining the obvious reduction in the cost factor.
This protective device remains effective even when the anode loop itself has become heavily contaminated and thick with deposit. Vacuum adaptors for the various types and sizes of vacuum couplings of other manufacturers in current use are available request. Circle number

90” lever high vacuum
valves
Two types of 90” Lever Valves with better operational vacuum features are in production at ‘Sadler Electronic Controls’ in bore sizes of 8 mm, 15 mm and 28 mm as illustrated with a vacuum leak rate better than 1O-5 I. torr-l/s larger sizes of valves are under development. The change-over type by its patented design features makes it a most suitable device for the efficient valve sequencing control of the conventional mechanical/diffusion pump combination

In the new valve the body’s dead volume is constantly under evacuation irrespective of the positional setting of the valve or the port selected, thereby ensuring no unwanted puffs of gas are present due to isolation pressure rise, even when the valve is ‘Shut Off’ from both ports. Change-over is smooth and one port is automatically closed before the opening of the other protecting systems from faulty valve operation by this inherent port opening interlock. The operational setting of the valve is always visible and clearly indicated by the position of the operating lever, further avoiding confusion to the operation. The straight through valve is an ‘open-shut’ type, giving quick, and trouble-free operation by the 90’ turn lever and also has its body under constant evacuation at all times (see illustration). Different types of vacuum coupling unions are available for all valves with the SEC ‘UK Pneurop’ flange type and the ‘screwed’ type collet adaptors supplied as standard (see illustration). Bore sizes for the change-over valves are at present available in the 15 mm and 28 mm range. The larger sizes of 42 mm and 54 mm O.D. are in the process of development, both coupling systems accommodate UK metric pipes to BS 2871. Huntington Laboratories, Inc., manufacturer of ultra-high vacuum products for science and industry, reports record sales and earnings for the company’s recently ended fiscal year. Sales were up 15% over the previous year, while earnings of the privately held company leaped 200% from $0.07 per share to $0.21 per share.
Gerald H Hooper, Huntington chairman and president, attributed the three-times earnings increase to enhanced efficiencies gained early in the fiscal year by consolidation of Huntington activities under a single roof. Last June, the company moved into a new plant that more than doubled manufacturing capacity. Hooper said that other major factors that influenced the six-yearold company’s performance included acquisition of additional 525

The General Engineering Co (Radcliffe) Ltd have recently received two orders from customers in the U.K. and Germany for their latest Brew design high temperature vacuum furnaces. The furnaces are both intended for aircraft engine work. These cold-wall furnaces, series 800, are suitable for working up to 1300°C. at a vacuum of 1 x 1O-4 torr and are particularly suitable for brazing and general heat treatment. The usuable hot zone sizes range from a 600 mm cube to a 1200 mm cube with charge capacities from 160 to 700 kg. The all metal hot zone and heaters ensure a clean working environment and due to their relatively low thermal mass allow rapid heating and cooling rates to give short cycle times. Also to facilitate rapid cooling, high speed gas recirculating fans and external heat exchangers are fitted. General Engineering Co. (Radcliffe) Ltd number

The ARDM 50 motors, part of the company’s well known range of stepping motors and associated electronics, give an output torque up to 2.5 Ncm (255 gem) with step angles of 9” or 11.25”. These units feature bi-polar drive and can be used in conjunction with open loop control systems to give high accuracy positioning in either linear or angular mode. Stepping motors have a wide field of application and Berger motors are used in diverse products such as chart recorders, peristaltic pumps, brewers’ vats, petrol blending and dispensing, ticket printing and labelling machines.
