EFFECTS OF RISING TEMPERATURE

ON AQUATIC ORGANISMS

Advance notice of a meeting to be held on 4 and 5 January 1994 in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Durham, Durham City, U.K. This meeting is jointly sponsored by the Aquatic Ecology Group of the British Ecological Society and the Thermobiology Group of the Society for Experimental Biology. The theme of the meeting will concern whole-organism, population and ecosystem aspects of the effect of rising temperature in freshwater estuarine and marine habitats. It is hoped that the emphasis will be on experimental and other quantitative approaches to the better understanding and prediction of responses in natural habitats in the background of “global warming”. It is intended that contributions are given from studies on tropical, temperate and polar organisms. Full details of the meeting will be published at a later date, including names of keynote speakers. Anyone interested in attending and/or contributing to this meeting should contact: Dr N. Polunin Department of Marine Sciences and Coastal Management University of Newcastle Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7RU [Tel. (091) 222 6675; Fax.
