REPORTS ON CONFERENCES RECOGNIZED BY IFToMM No. 1. The 7th Polish-Czechoslovak Conference on Dynamics of Machines Sponsors: The Polish Academy of Sciences, the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, and the Polish Committee for Theory of Machines and Mechanisms. During the period 21-25 September 1971, the 7th Polish-Czechoslovak Conference on Dynamics of Machines was held in Gliwice, Poland; it had been organized jointly by the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Department of Machine Tools Construction, (which recently was reorganized into the Institute for Mechanics and Fundamentals of Machine Construction) of the Technical University of Silesia. The proceedings of this conference comprising 99 papers have been published in two volumes. Those papers which have been fully published provide the most interesting subject matter, and present generally problems of the developing science of machine dynamics. The first plenary lecture was given by Professor Jan Gonda, entitled "A review of investigations dealing with the dynamics of machines, carded on in Czechoslovakia", and this was followed by the lecture of Professor Stefan Ziemba concerning the "Achievements in the field of machine dynamics in Poland", which lecture was read by Professor W. Bogusz, as Professor Ziemba could not take part in the conference himself, due to his illness. Thereafter, inaugural papers were read by Professor A. P. Fillipov, Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, about "The effect of percussive charges upon a construction", and also by Professor W. Kononienko, Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, on "Dynamical analysis of real vibrating systems". From among the 99 papers selected for presentation, 94 were read in four different sections, which were classified according to their subject matter as follows: problems of vibrations occurring in vehicles problems of dynamics in heavy machinery (e.g. transporting and building machines)
