The university must follow the laboratory practices and facility requirements under the Select Agent and Toxins Rule. This requirement was met by procuring and installing a modular BSL3 lab. A primary reason Iowa State University chose to follow a modular approach was funding. Due to security and space availability, a site was identified adjacent to other research facilities that could be developed.
