1730 GIIL, ED DUBE,BP Egfect of boundary conditions at the interface on Lining pressure. Conference.in French.TF,13R. PROC .THIRD CONGRESS, INToSOC .ROCK MECH.D~W~,197h, V2, PART B,1974, Pl136-1140. A brief review of models leading to lining design ~ presented. The result of a comparison involving mathematical models of circular cylindrical lined tunnels driven in viscoelastic ground with their axis parallel to one of the principal directions of the stress tensor is presented.

PROC .THIRD CONGRESS, INT.SOC .ROCK MECH .D~NVER,1975, V2, PART B,1974,PllSO-1156. A closed-form solutica for the determination of the true ground pressure acting on tunnel supports in the rock mass is presented. The solution takes into account a number of signlficant characteristics of the rock mass such as its linear or nonlinear failure envelope, loss of strength after failure associated with volume dilation and its strength decrease with time. 1732 AUSTIN,WG BUR .RECLAM . One of the more important and yet easily modified parameters in the performance of tunnel boring machines is the spacing between two neighbouring grooves created by the travel of the cutters. This spacing affects the interaction between the grooves and thus the advance rate and overall efficiency of the tunnel boring machine. Selecting the correct spacing for each specific Job requires a thorough understanding of the cutting characteristics of the rock material. Results of cutting experiments with a 7-in. (180.ram) rolling disk cutter in marble, limestone, granite, and quartzite are presented and examined. The values of muck weight per unit length, groove depth, cutting coefficient, and specific energy are taken as indicators of the cutter performance for each test condition. Determination of the optimum and critical groove spacing for field operations can easily be performed with values of say one of the performance indicators based on the interrelation between rock strength indices and cutter performance indicators. PROC .THIRD CONGRESS, INT .SOC .ROCK MECH .D~NV~ 197&,V2, PART B,1974,PlO12-1014. An integro-differential equation for stress-function, integrated by steps in time is used to calculate the stability of a mine working. A criterion obtained experimentally is used to evaluate the rock destruction. An algorithm for calculating mine working contour displacements is presented.
