The European Association for Signal Processing EURASIP aims at the improvement of the communication between groups and individuals working within the field of Signal Processing in Europe or elsewhere. To accomplish this goal, EURASIP arranges workshops and conferences, e.g. the triennal European Conference on Signal Processing E U S I P C f ~nd patronizes the journals SIGNAL PROCE:,!~:NG and SPEECH COMMUNICATION. EURASIP is now planning to make an inventory of European research groups active in the multidisciplinary field of Signal Processing. The general idea is to obtain a one-page description of the activities and interests of each and every European Signal Processing group, and to arrange these in a book in chapters by country. Reference tables by subject and combinations of subjects will be included. This book will be published by one of the large publishing companies as an official EURASIP publication and should be
available at EUSIPCO-83, University of Erlangen, West-Germany, September 12-16, 1983. It will be updated every three years. An Editorial Board has been formed consisting of national editors from all European countries. The national editors do their utmost to guarantee that all research groups recei',~ a camera-ready questionnaire. EURASIP trusts you are convinced of the importance of this Survey to the Signal Procersing community and cordially invites you to cooperate in the realization of this project.
