Product news February 2009

New product programme from Calpeda Calpeda plans to launch a number of new products and components in 2009. These include a programme to improve the efficiency, operating range and NPSHR characteristics of its NM Series of pumps. The range is available up to 75 kW with 2 & 4 pole motor options, in cast iron and bronze. The company also plans to expand its NR Series of glanded in-line pumps. The new models will extend the range to 18.5 kW with flows to 75 m3/hr. In 2009 the company will also launch a GXR range of stainless

steel submersible drainage pumps featuring a top discharge and water-cooled motors. There will be three new models: GXR9, GXR11 and GXR13 capable of flows to 225 ltr/min and heads to 13 m. Automatic (with float switch) and manual (without float switch) versions will be available. Also scheduled for 2009 is a 2 in (50 mm) model in the MXV-B range. The new models will extend this competitive range of all stainless steel vertical multistage pumps to cover flows up to 26 m3/hr and heads to 126 m, Calpeda says. www.calpeda.co.uk

Improved bearings have longer life Schaeffler’s FAG E1 spherical roller bearings with outside diameters larger than 320 mm are now available in X-life premium quality versions, with a 15% increase in load ratings, 50% higher limiting running speeds, and up to 60% longer service life when compared to their predecessors, the company says. These improvements in quality, performance and running accuracy are due to the development of cages and rollers with new dimensions and crowned faces, the company says. Many bearing sizes within Schaeffler’s spherical roller bearing range can now be converted to X-life quality. These bearings have no central rib on the inner ring and are therefore able to use longer barrel rollers. Surface improvements on the rolling elements enable a lubrication film that is capable of supporting even higher loads. Improved osculation conditions and additional profiles further

optimise the rolling contact, while modified osculation and precise rib geometry increase the load carrying capacity of the rib contact. A new sheet metal cage with improved roller guidance and lubrication support, reduce wear and extend the life of the bearing. Schaeffler claims that the new X-life versions offer up to 60% longer service life, higher limiting speeds, increased load ratings and lower energy consumption. www.schaeffler.co.uk www.worldpumps.com
