FMC Corporation acquire Ciba-Geigy fire retardant business

FMC Corporation, Chicago, and Ciba-Geigy AG, Basle, have mounted that they have signed a letter of intent for FMC to acquire the worldwide Flame Retardants and Fluids and Water Treatment Chemicals businesses of Ciba-Geigy’s Additives Division, primarily located at Stafford Park, Manchester. FMC said it would continue to operate the *afford Park facility in Manchester (‘UK) and plans no major personnel changes.

Witco alliance with Ciba-Geigy

Witco Corp. has formed a co-operative technical and marketing agreement with Giba-Geigy Marienberg GmbH, the German subsidiary of Ciba-Geigy Ltd. of Basel, Switzerland. W&co’s Argus division and Ciba-Geigy M~enberg will share technical information and co-operate in the development of mixed-metal stabilizers for the PVC market. Argus now supplies stabilizers in North America, and Ciba-Geigy markets the materials in Europe. Witco has also entered a marketing agreement with Ciba-Geigy Marienberg for methyltin stabilizers produced by Argus that excludes North America and Japan.

The Fiber Glass Division, formerly PPG Glass Fibres Ltd., has a plant at Wigan, England, and the Specialty Chemicals Division, formerly Mazer Chemicals Ltd., formulates surfactants at Manchester, England.
