In Memory of James P. Jennings

Journal of Accounting Education Editorial Board member, Jim Jennings passed away on February 1, 2008. Jim was Professor Emeritus of Accounting at Saint Louis University, where he served as a faculty member for more than 30 years. Prior to that, he was on the faculties of Eastern Michigan University (from 1970 to 1972) and the University of Detroit from 1972 to 1976 (where he was also served as Department Chair). Jim Jennings was an award-winning teacher who cared deeply about his students and the accounting profession. He was instrumental in establishing Saint Louis University’s PhD program in accounting, and Jim’s commitment to doctoral education is evidenced by the fact that he served as major advisor on more than 25 dissertations. Jim also served as department chair for several terms, and he founded and advised its Beta Alpha Psi chapter. Many of Jim’s students have done well in the fields of public accounting, industry, government and academe—and attribute much of their success to Jim’s excellent teaching, research and leadership skills. Although active professionally throughout his career, Jim’s family was always his first love and priority. Jim was an experienced sailor and enjoyed traveling through Europe and China. Jim provided timely, insightful, and constructive reviews for the Journal of Accounting Education throughout his time as a member of the Editorial Board. The Journal of Accounting Education was fortunate to have Jim Jennings on its Editorial Board, and we will miss him and the guidance and advice that he provided.
