Grundfos invests in high-tech coating system
Grundfos G e r m a n y h a s r e c e n t l y i n v e s t e d in a high t e c h n o l o g y surface c o a t i n g system to reduce wear and increase productivity in m a n u f a c t u r i n g p r o c e s s p u m p s . This w a s i n s t a l l e d u n d e r a £450 000 t u r n k e y c o n t r a c t by Sulzer Metco. The i n s t a l l a t i o n i n c l u d e s a high velocity oxy-fuel process, w h i c h e n a b l e s h a r d e r w e a r i n g m a t e r i a l s , such as carbides, to be s p r a y e d very effectively as coatings. Grundfos is using it to provide a c o r r o s i o n - r e s i s t a n t surface on t h e b e a r i n g a r e a of its p u m p shafts. As p r o d u c t i v i t y is a n o b j e c t i v e , t h e s y s t e m includes a d v a n c e d p a r t s m a n i p u lation. Up to 24 p u m p shafts a r e m o u n t e d on a c a r o u s e l w h o s e m o v e m e n t is precisely coordin a t e d with t h e m o v e m e n t a n d o p e r a t i o n of t h e s p r a y gun, u n d e r CNC control.
