Note that the Journal style is such that manuscripts can and should be typed almost exactly in the style in which the), are printed: i.e., main headings capitals, centred (not underlined); sub-headings capitals, flush left, sub-sub-headings italics (i.e., underlined on the typescript, if not typed italic), flush left. Authors should refer to current Journal issues for guidance on details of style for both papers and Letters to the Editor. 4.5. Conventions. The journal follows the SI units system, details of which may be found, for example, in the British Standards Institution Publication PD 5686, "The Use of SI Units". The conventions used in current issues of the journal should be followed for headings, references, etc. References should be listed on a separate page, numbered in the order in which they are cited in the paper, and given in full. Citations in the text should be by bracketed number [5]. The list of references immediately following the main text and preceding any appendices, should read thus: 1. F. KARAL and Z. Note that both first and last page numbers of referenced papers are cited. Volume number, and other characters to be printed in bold face, but not thus typed, should be indicated in the typescript by a wavy line underneath the number or character, thus: 64,,,,,,.A straight line underneath some Roman characters indicates italic print. Mathematical symbols are normally printed in italics unless otherwise indicated, and except for function and special symbols which are printed R o m a n upright: e.g., sin, cosh, Jo(. - -) (Bessel function of zero order), etc., e (the natural logarithm base), j (or i ) = x/Wi-, d (the differential symbol). Equation numbers are distinguished in the text from reference numbers by being enclosed in parentheses: e.g. equation (5). Where symbols or characters are written in ink, they must be defined the first time they occur. (Note particularly the confusion which can arise over S and s, zero and " o h " , p, p and P.) Matrices, vectors and tensors which are to be printed in bold face should be indicated by underlining with a wavy line every time they occur (if not typed bold). Footnotes should be avoided wherever possible. 4.6. Figures. Original figures should always be submitted with the manuscript since photocopies cannot be reproduced satisfactorily. Wherever possible, graphs should be boxed in, and scale divisions should be marked on the inside of the boxes. Grids should not be shown. Insofar as possible, explanations should be placed in the legend; the drawing itself should contain a m i n i m u m of lettering, and this should be inserted lightly in blue pencil. These points are illustrated in the example figure.

Photographs should be supplied as glossy prints, and where lettering is to be included this should be superimposed on tracing paper. Illustrations, both drawings and photographs, should be referred to as Figure 1, Figure 2, etc. The name(s) of the author(s) should be written on all illustrations, as should the figure number. The indication " T o p " must be given, if necessary. Note again that a separately typed list of figure legends must be included at the end of the manuscript. Besides the original illustrations, one duplicate set must accompany each copy of the manuscript; these may be photoprints, if clear and legible. 4.7. Unacceptable material. The Publisher may return unacceptable material to authors for revision.
5. Copyright~offprints Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if it is accepted for publication, copyright in the paper shall be assigned to the Publisher. In consideration of the assignment of the copyright, the Publisher will provide fifty offprints of each paper. Further offprints may be ordered at an extra cost at proof stage. The Publisher will not put any limitation on the personal freedom of the author to use material contained in the paper in other works which may be published.
