International n e w s No u velles in terna tionales Sta nda rds for refrigeration New standards relating to various aspects of refrigeration are to be established by ASHRAE (The American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers). SPC 22-78R will consider revision to 'Methods of testing for rating water-cooled refrigerant condensers'. This standard lists and defines terms used for rating watercooled refrigerant condensers and establishes testing methods. SPC 24-78R will consider revision to 'Methods of testing for rating liquid coolers', a standard which classifies liquid coolers by type, lists and defines rating terms, and establishes methods of testing. SPC 120P 'Method of laboratory testing of air ducts' will develop a new standard to establish uniform methods of laboratory testing ducts and fittings to determine flow rate, air density, pressure drop and local total pressure loss coefficients. SPC 26-78R will consider revision to 'Mechanical refrigeration installations on shipboard'. Good engineering practice pertaining to safety of personnel and of the ship itself, as well as reliability and adequacy of refrigerating apparatus, are covered in this standard. It also covers refrigeration equipment used for air conditioning on shipboard. SPC 28-78R will consider revision to 'Method of testing flow capacity of refrigerant capillary tubes'. This standard's purpose is to provide a uniform procedure for testing capillary tubes by determining dry nitrogen flow capacity under specific test conditions.

providing a basis for agreement between manufacturers and users and a procedure against which all other methods of test may be checked. SPC 63.3P 'Method of testing filter-driers for acid removal ability" will develop a new standard whose scope will be to describe a test method for measuring the weight of acid removed from a refrigerant by a refrigerant filter-drier containing an adsorbent material. Industrial trade fair Industrial refrigeration and air conditioning will be covered exclusively at a UK trade fair in Birmingham from 13-16 May 1984. This exhibition is recognition of the fact that industrial process refrigeration now forms a distinct sector within the refrigeration plant industry. It will be exclusive to manufacturers of plants operating at below 45°C, rated at 50 hp or over and using Freon gas or ammonia as the refrigerant. Eagle Exhibition Consultants Ltd, 129-141 High St, Epping, Essex C M 16 4AG, U K.
Heat pump symposium A symposium is to be held on the large scale applications of heat pumps in York, UK from 25-27 September 1984. The scope of the conference is quite wide and includes heat pump applications in distillation processes, drying processes, steam raising, heat recovery and waste heat sources, solvent
recovery, concentration processes and agricultural uses. Also to be discussed are system studies; component studies and unit processes; fluids, thermodynamics; district heating and cooling and centralised heating and cooling of large buildings; research areas including heat exchanger design, systems design integration, low grade heat sources, ground water effects, and heat pumps/ storage combined programmes. Conference Organiser, 2nd Head Pump Symposium, BHRA, The Fluid Engineering Centre, Cranfield, Bedford MK43 0A J, UK
Frozen food exhibition Copenhagan. Denmark is to be the venue of IFFEX ' 8 4 - the International Frozen Food Exhibition and Congress- from 20-23 May 1984. The exhibition will cover all aspects of frozen food production, from early stages to the finished product. Exhibits will include raw material suppliers, all types of machinery, equipment and technology used in the manufacture, processing, packaging, transport, storage and marketing of frozen food products on a world-wide basis. The theme of the congress is innovation and investment. Speakers will focus on significant product and technological development and a series of awards will be made at the end of the congress to companies and individuals judged to have contributed the most outstanding innovation in the preceeding year.
