The material in this book has been represented before in a different format. As the title suggests the book includes the two major reports concerning inequalities in health this decade. First the slimmed down version of the 1980 Report of the Working Group on Inequalities in Health - The Black Report. Second, a review of the studies on the same subject which have appeared since the Black Report. The review was originally published in 1987 by the Health Education Council under the title ‘The Health Divide: Inequalities in Health in the 1980’s’but in this book the review has been substantially extended to include the treatment of topics which were of particular public interest in 1987 and new evidence from 1987-1988 has also been included. The book is well set out with each chapter summarised and the references to both reports easily found at the back of the book. The joint introduction of the book sets the scene and is particularly relevant in the current debate regarding the future funding and organisation of health services in the United Kingdom. The information contained in this book should be knowledge that all health professionals can apply in their everyday practice as well as being a basis for action in the future.

Subtitled ‘A guide to sexual problems and where to go for help’, this book discusses a wide range of sexual ‘problems’ - including ‘Finding a Mate - Or a Date’ and ‘Homosexuality’. Whilst it does so in a generally sympathetic manner, its assumptions that everyone is seeking a sexual partner and that homosexuality is a problem needs to be challenged. Each chapter includes a list of contact addresses and agencies which nurses could approach for help for themselves or their clients. and it is for this reason that libraries may find it useful to carry a copy of the book. It is inevitable that these lists will rapidly become out of date, and if this problem is to be avoided the publishers will need to bring out frequent revisions. However, at a price of 519.95 it is doubtful whether Schools of Nursing will be able to afford always to have the latest edition. (CHRISTINE WEBB
