Compressibility, swelling and consolidation See also: 803065 803076 ENGINEERING PROS~L~MS ASSOCIATED WITH EXPANSIVE CLAYS FROM ROMANIA Popescu, M E Engng Geol, V14, NI, June 1979, 1:'43-53 The differences between swelling potential relationships, obtained by two different methods are presented. Swelling pressure tests were made using available standard teeh~ques, as well as specially developed cell pressure eq~dpment. Attention is drawn to the stages of the shrinkage process as related to soil structure. In soils with an anisotropic structure, the directional variation of shrinkage strains is elliptical in shape, with the maximum shrinkage normal to particle erientation. The engineering aspects of the results are discussed briefly. 803077 USE OF A PSYCHROMEPRIC METHOD IN TRIAXIAL TESTS ON AN UNSATURATED LOAM (IN FRENCH) Verbrugge, J C Can Geotech J, V15, N4, Nov 1978, P501-509 803078 CONSOLIDATION DUE TO SHEAR LOADS DISTRIBDTsD OVER A RECTANGULAR AREA Babu Shankar, N; Sarma, K S; Ratnam, M V Int J Num Anal Meth Geomech, V2, N4, OctDec 1978, P329-342 803079 METHOD TO ESTIMATE THE DEGREE OF CONSOLIDATION OF A NON-HOMOGENEOUS CLAY LAYER. The author discusses methods of determining capacity for water absorption and rock heaving behaviour, methods which are being used to determine changes in strength, and testing methods far investigating the decc~position of rocks under the influence of water. 803081 FOUNDATIONS ON EXPANSIVE ROCKS IN BRAZIL Da Costa Nunes, A J Proc 4th Congress International Society for Rock Mechanics, Montreux, 2-8 Sept 1979, Vol l, P99-105. The cohesive soll is treated as a saturated elastic-viscoplastic body. The characteristics method was used for this analysis, and the stress, strain and velocity under the ground were determined from the surface motion.
