38A crushing chamber and how they influence wear, size distribution of end product, required loads, and machine capacity were then evaluated. The work culminated in the Ultra-Cone crusher with curved and grooved crushing plate and mantle.
conditions of rock disintegration, where specific energy indicates strength properties of the rock mass. Influences of normal stress, size of indentor, and size of machine excavated workings on such relations are evaluated. Scale effects and relation of specific energy to rock mass strength are discussed.

Publ London: Thomas Telford, 1992 The performance of full-face TBMs in rock has been examined with the aim of setting up a major database containing geomechanical information and machine design and performance details (penetration rate and equipment utilization). An example case history analysis is illustrated. The collected data will be used to develop recommended models for equipment selection and performance prediction. 941300 Estimation of the cutting rate and the bit wear of partial-face tunnelling machines Natau, O; Mutschler, T; Lempp, C Proc 7th I S R M International Congress on Rock Mechanics, Aachen, 16-20 September 1991 V3, P1591-1595. Publ Rotterdam: A A Balkema, 1993 The use of roadheader-type machines as an alternative to blasting for the driving of non-circular tunnels is becoming common. Several methods for predicting the penetration rate and bit wear in this case are presented and compared. Geomechanical parameters used for these predictions are examined and their difference with parameters measured for stability estimation discussed. The case of a tunnel in Permian red sandstones is presented and used to illustrate the problems which exist in predicting penetration rate. 941301 Cutting constant of the rock does not depend on scale effect and rockmass jointing Krupa, V; Krepelka, F; Bejda, J; Imrich, P Proc Second International Conference on Scale Effects in Rock Masses, Lisbon, 25 June 1993 P63-68. Publ Rotterdam." A A Balkema, 1993 Results of laboratory tests on sandstone, granite, and andesite show that the ratio of deformation just before failure to depth of splitting for cone indentors remains constant, even in repeated testing in the vicinity of previous tests. An application of this observation to monitoring systems used in rock cutting data logging for TBMs is proposed. The cutting constant (deformation to splitting depth ratio) for other disc cutters is analysed. The possibility of continuous monitoring of rockmass properties during machine boring is discussed. 941302 Influence of size of cutting indentor and scale effect in rock mass strength determination Krepelka, F; Imrich, P; Krupa, V Proc Second International Conference on Scale Effects in Rock Masses, Lisbon, 25 June 1993 P69-73. The problem is formulated by adopting a Hankel transform development of the governing equations and reducing the associated mixed boundary value problems to a set of coupled Fredholm integral equations of the second type. These equations are solved numerically. Influence of depth of embedment on axial stiffness of the embedded anchor plate is investigated. 941304 Rockboiting design in UK coal mines Hurt, K Proc ISRM Symposium: Eurock "92, Chester, 14-17 September 1992 P414-419. Publ London: Thomas Tel.[brd, 1992 Rockbolt roof support systems have become accepted in UK coal mines over the past 5 years. Support design is based on a thorough understanding of the prevailing geology and the non-uniform nature of the stress field and its effects at each site. Typical bolts used are 22mm diameter, 2.4m long with full column resin grouting. Results are presented from monitoring main road and junctions at Ashfordby Mine, roadways subject to interaction from underlying workings at Easington, and gateroad support in difficult conditions at Kiveton park. 941305 Geotechnical analyses of the mining method by using long cable bolts Bajzelj, U; Likar, J; Zigman, F; Subeij, A; Sapek, S Proc International Symposium on Rock Support, Sudbury, 1619 June 1992 P393-401. Publ Rotterdam: A ,4 Balkema, 1992 The Zirovski Vrh uranium mine in Slovenia works ores in sedimentary formations. Initial support of the room and pillar workings was by steel bolts of length 1.6-2.2m. As mechanised mining progressed to richer deposits in ground affected by fault zones, it was necessary to seek alternative mining and support methods to avoid leaving large amounts of valuable ore in pillars. Underground stress measurement and geotechnical investigation were carried out. Using the data acquired and finite element stress analysis, a new strategy of cemented backfill and long cable bolt support was developed.
