GASTROENTEROLOGY is the premiere journal in the field of gastrointestinal disease and is led by an internationally renowned board of editors. As the official journal of the AGA Institute, GASTROENTEROLOGY delivers up-to-date and authoritative coverage of both basic and clinical gastroenterology and hepatology. Regular features include research and perspectives by leading authorities, reports on the latest technologies for diagnosing and treating digestive diseases, images illustrating important clinical findings, reviews of scholarly media, medical news, meeting summaries, video abstracts, and monthly podcasts. GASTROENTEROLOGY also bridges the gap between basic and clinical science by publishing comprehensive reviews on important topics such as pancreatitis and liver disease. Conclusions, and Keywords. Video abstracts are encouraged. For clinical trials, include the registry web site and the registration number at the end of the “Conclusions” section. Example: ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT002209456. This information does not count toward the 260 word limit.
Keywords Include 3–4 keywords associated with your manuscript, separated by semicolons (eg, active vitamin D; parathyroid hormone-related peptide; hypercalcemia; bone resorption). The keywords should be different than the words in the title of your manuscript.
Author Statements
Article Proper
Via GASTROENTEROLOGY’s manuscript tracking system, authors must attest to a series of statements, thereby assigning copyright of the manuscript to the AGA Institute and affirming authorship responsibility, manuscript originality, payment of author fees, IRB/Animal Care Committee approval, role of study sponsor, financial disclosures, and funding sources.
Original articles should not exceed 6000 words including references and figure and table legends. No more than a combined total of 7 figures and/or tables (figures are limited to 6 panels per figure). Additional images may be included as supplemental files to be published online only.
References
Author Fees
For references in all manuscripts, list first 3 authors followed by et al; followed by article title, journal name, year, volume, and page ranges. Submissions with references where two or more authors share first authorship must feature those names in bold type.
Submission Fees: Authors submitting original basic or clinical manuscripts to GASTROENTEROLOGY are required to pay a $75 fee at submission. Page Fees: GASTROENTEROLOGY charges authors of original research articles a fee for each printed page published. Authors will receive invoices for page charges after the corrected proof of their accepted manuscript has been finalized. Page charges for non-AGA members are $100 per page. AGA members who are first or corresponding author at the time of submission will receive a 15% discount on page charges and pay $85 per page. Color Fees: Figures that are reviewed in color must be published in color. $650 for the first figure, $100 for each additional figure.
Title Page Required for all submissions. Title of article cannot exceed 120 characters with spaces and cannot include abbreviations. Include full name(s), academic degree(s), and affiliation(s) of author(s). Include institution(s) and department(s) where study was performed. Include all grant support information. Include name, address, business telephone number, fax number, and email address of corresponding author. Include all author financial disclosures and relevant conflicts of interest. For each author, include role in manuscript. Include writing assistance information.
Abstract Cannot exceed 260 words. Abbreviations must be spelled out. Include Background & Aims, Methods, Results,
Figures For a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding figure creation and submission please go to www. gastrojournal.org and click on Figure FAQs under Info for Authors. Resolution must be at least 300 ppi. Line art will be redrawn by the AGA Institute’s medical illustration team.
Supplemental Files Portions of the manuscript (including video abstracts, figures, and tables) to be published online only should be uploaded separately as Supporting Documents.
Clinical Trials If your manuscript is a clinical trial, a statement must be made in the Methods Section that all authors had access to the study data and had reviewed and approved the final manuscript. Additionally, the study protocol must be uploaded as a separate attachment. If your study is a randomized controlled trial, you must include a CONSORT checklist* and flow diagram.
