NEW proaucts the range ofapplications for this innovative inspection system so that sheet metal blanks and auto body panels, for example, can be efficiendy scrutinized for particulate cleanliness. The new PartSens measuring probe has a measuring surface of 20 x 15 mm and allows for efficient, random sample testing of component surfaces for particulate cleanliness. The inspection system works with direct sidelighting in order to illuminate the surface to be inspected. Thanks to the integration of optical filters, the measuring probe generates extremely high contrast, thus assuring reliable inspection even under difficult conditions. PartSens is equipped with an integrated thermal report printer for documentation of measurement results, and measured values and live images can also be saved to a USB memory stick for further processing on a Pc. easy to maintain-corrosion resistance is achieved by an epoxy paint finish that is 80 microns thick and an electro-zinc-plated load chain. The five-pocket load wheel provides smoother lifting, more accurate load positioning, and longer chain life than hoists with four-pocket load wheels. The plug-in pendant station, a standard feature, makes the ZIP-V installation efficient and easy to maintain. The ZIP-Vis also equipped with a standard chain container that is designed to resist oil and dirt, and keeps excess chain clear of moving parts to prevent snags or damage to the lift. ELECTRIC CHAIN HOIST Morris Material Handling, Inc., the original equipment manufacturer of P&H cranes, hoists, and replacement parts, introduces the ZIP-V Electric Chain Hoist. The ZIP-V Electric Chain Hoist, with lifting capacities from l/Sto 5 tons, is safe, reliable, and easy to maintain. The ZIP-V Electric Chain Hoist is available in various speeds and frequencies, and is adaptable to any application. The ZIP-V Electric Chain Hoist is

ACID-ETCHED ANODIZING Linetec announces a change in its anodize etch chemistry from traditional, caustic etch to a more environmentally friendly, acid etch process. In addition to its green attributes, acid etch creates an aesthetically appealing, "frostier" matte finish that helps hide small defects, such as die lines, flow lines, minor corrosion, and scratches, that may occur on the aluminum surface of architectural products. The process by-products from the acid etch bath are recyclable. The acid etch anodize process also reduces waste and energy used with traditional etch processes. Furthermore, acid etch has the viscosity of water and will not collect in the small recesses of aluminum extrusions or narrow aluminum tubes, enhancing the durability and life cycle of the finished product. INFRARED QUARTZ HEATERS (LAMPS) Anderson Thermal Devices, Inc. is now offering a new ceramic reflective-coated, infrared quartz lamp called RadReflect. The new coating has 95% of the reflective efficiency of gold, is less expensive, handles higher temperatures, and has a longer life than gold-coated quartz lamps. The December 2008 I metalfinishing I 53

NEW proClucts reflective coating makes the heaters unidirectional, radiating most of the energy toward the substrate without external reflectors. Gold vaporizes at a comparatively low temperature compared to ceramic. Also, gold reflective material must be cooled to prevent overheating and cannot be used in a vacuum. These factors allow for the RadReflect to be operated at higher application temperatures while keeping the back of the high-quality quartz tube cool, extending the lamp life. The reflective-coated quartz lamps are available in shortwave, medium, and medium-fast versions, allowing for the optimum wavelength and off and on speeds. RadReflect lamps are also available in single and twin tube configurations. For more information, call (800) 720-5256 or visit www.andersonthermal.com. Circle413 on reader servicecard

POWDER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Making multiple color changes in an eight-hout shift? ITW Gema's new Magic Center is the perfect powder management system to achieve extreme productivity. Included in the system are the application controls, the gun mover axis controls, and the fresh powder supply. The fully automatic cleaning process reduces color change times significantly, and the Magic Center is quick to install and easy

to operate. The OptiSpeeder is the heart ofthe Magic Center and combines the powder feed and cleaning functions into one compact unit. The OptiSpeeder's improved fluidization and low maintenance pumps deliver powder to the guns using less compressed air, resulting in a softer powder cloud for improved transfer efficiency. During the Magic Center's automated cleaning, the OptiSpeeder empties the remaining powder for reuse, and putges the pumps and all of the powder hoses quickly and efficiently. Because the OptiSpeeder is a completely sealed and closed system, it is a dustless process. The "one-button cleaning operation" allows one operator to complete a total color change in 10 minutes or less. COATING STRIPPER D-Zolve 1012 from Solvent Kleene,

Inc., strips hard-to-remove powder coatings and paints from intricate part shapes. It is designed for use in an immersion tank at room temperature; no heating is required. Additionally, waste solids can be filtered out to prolong the useful life of the solution. D-Zolve is compatible with most metals, ferrous and non- ferrous, and December 2008 I metalfinishing I 54

plastics. Immersing powder coated parts in D-Zolve breaks the chemical bond and dissolves the coating. A fast-acting powder coating remover, the stripping time typically ranges from 30 minutes or less to two hours. Designed to minimize health and environmental hazards, D-Zolve 1012 is non-flammable, has no hazardous air pollution potential, and does not contain any known carcinogenic compounds. The product is compatible with galvanized steel, aluminum, zinc, copper, brass, stainless steels, and carbon steels as well as most plastic and silicone substrates. Note: DZolve 1012 is not DOT regulated. DZolve 1012 is available in either a 5gallon trial-sized container or a 55gallon drum. FINISHING SYSTEM

Part finishing time is easily reduced from days to just minutes while finish quality is improved using Birchwood Casey's new BC40 TRU TEMP® finishing system. Utilizing a patented, two-stage oxidation, the TRU TEMP® process forms a black magnetite finish on all iron and nonstainless steel parts. Operating at 200 0 F, the process is safe to bring inhouse and easy to manage, even for untrained personnel. The result is a non-dimensional, satin black finish that enhances the corrosion resistance and sales appeal of all types of tooling and machine componentswith a 25-minute turnaround time. "Start-up finishers and established manufacturers have asked for a system and process that is very fast and produces high-quality blackened parts www.metalfinishing.com
