We welcome your further comments and suggestions for ways in which to improve the usefulness of this section. Reports, audiovisuals, and other resources that may be used by nutritional professionals for reference or continuing education are designated "professional." Curricula, audiovisuals, and other materials designed for use with children in formal or informal educational settings are listed under "classroom." Handouts, diet plans, and other materials intended for education of patients and the general public are categorized as "consumer education and counseling. " Inclusion of any printed material, audiovisual, or other resource in this section does not imply endorsement by the Society for Nutrition Education. Evaluative comments contained in the reviews and briefsummaries in this section reflect the views ofthe authors when signed or of the editorial staff when unsigned.

Dangers of Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy, 1980. This policy paper for health professionals who provide prenatal and infant care and counseling services presents current findings regarding the effects of alcohol intake on the fetus. Fetal alcohol syndrome is described along with a look at prevention, counseling, and treatment. This paper advises complete abstention from alcohol during pregnancy as the best policy to avoid risk of harm to the fetus.

Dietary Lesson Plans for Health Care Facilities, Owen, L. J., J. C. Rose, and D. J. Wrase, 1979. From Learning Resources Dept., Rochester Methodist Hospital, 201 W. Using this collection of 43 lesson plans requiring 50 class hours, health care facilities can accomplish inservice training effectively. The lessons on food handling and safety are useful primarily to foodservice personnel. Lessons on nutrition, therapeutic diets, pregnancy, infant feeding, weight control, and diet and coronary heart disease are of interest additionally to patients, nursing staff, or employees in general. unevaluated materials lists more than 150 audiovisuals and printed materials related to foods and nutrition. Many titles, such as "Hooray for the Hot Dog," "Celebrate with Cake," and "Brown Sugar Basics," or listed producers, such as food, vitamin, and petroleum companies, offer clues as to the message. In many cases, the educator will need to allow time for preview to determine appropriateness of the message for a particular audience. This cost must be added to the price of "free" materials. Food Consumption and Nutrition Evaluation - The National School Lunch Program, USDA, 1979. The results of a 1977 USDA study of food and nutrient consumption in the school lunch program constitute the main portion of this report. The study includes suggestions for the reduction of plate waste and a summary of the literature published over the past ten years that assesses the National School Lunch Program.
