Abstract Interatrial defects, ventricular septal defects, and patent ductus arteriosus can occur as part of more congenital cardiac malformations or as an isolate finding. We present a case of interatrial defect associated with ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus in a 2-day-old newborn infant. © 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved. 1. Case report

Interatrial defects [1–3], ventricular septal defects [4–7], and patent ductus arteriosus [8] can occur as part of more congenital cardiac malformations or as an isolate finding. We present a case of interatrial defect associated with ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus in a 3-day-old newborn infant. A male Italian newborn infant was referred at the age of 2 days to the Cardiology Unit for a cardiovascular check-up. The oxygen saturation was 98% on room air. A murmur (grade 2/6) was present. Bidimensional transthoracic echocardiography revealed an interatrial defect (Fig. 1A, Fig. 2A), a ventricular septal defect (Fig. 1B, Fig. 2A), and a patent ductus arteriosus (Fig. 2B).
